Vegan Razors and Shaving Gel
There are some things you never think about being cruelty free or vegan. Paper towel? Razors? What do they do, shave the bunnies? But you need to think about it. Those companies are owned by the same giant corporations that are responsible for all of the horror stories that we know go on in labs. (I won’t name names, but who makes your razor?) Mmm-hmm.
Now, there is a truly an answer. Dorco, a company known all over Asia for its shaving products, makes razors. Just razors. No creams or gels (though I’ve got one of those too from Acure, read on!) that could be used to torture a bunny. You can now shave in peace.
I tried out the Shai Soft Touch and its replaceable heads. Honestly, it worked just like my old razor made by you-know-who. It was great! I always cut myself shaving, but the Shai Soft Touch is made with a flexible plastic rim that helps prevent that. (Phew.) A flexible top is popular on women’s razors, to help navigate the curves and blind spots on legs. I didn’t try out the men’s razors, but it looks as though they are a bit sharper for a closer shave, as is usually the case.
Best part? This is no fancy pants shaving ideal reserved for the filthy rich who have probably lasered off all of their hair anyway. This is for all of us. The Shai Soft Touch is $5.95, and refills of four cartridges are just $6.75. The men’s razor I plan to gift my husband is just $5.50. (Don’t tell him.)
So to round out this great experience for me, Acure has a new shave gel. Of course, as with all things Acure, they respect the environment at every step, particularly with their packaging. This comes out of a can, but it’s powered by air instead of nasty gases.
Unlike other cruelty free shaving products that I’ve used, this gel comes out easily and foams up beautifully. (You really don’t need much – a little goes a long way.) It has a lovely and subtle fragrance, and left my legs feels really smooth. Since the can lasts and lasts, it’s an economical choice too.
In addition to this great razor and gel, what’s my secret to a smooth shave? Exfoliate your skin with a gentle soap and exfoliating glove afterwards. Dry, then moisturize. Enjoy.
