Sorbet Cosmetics: Eco-Conscious Skincare
Sometimes you come across a product that is so unique that you need a double take to ask yourself, that’s really possible? I introduce to you the cruelty-free brand, Sorbet Cosmetics, located in New Zealand. Sorbet Cosmetics makes solid bar shampoos, conditioners, cleansers and moisturizers that are all pH balanced and come in this completely awesome dissolvable packaging. The use little or no preservatives with their formulas, and are made to last months with daily use.
I was sent a few items from their line and was pleasantly surprised by everything I tried. I’m a liquid soap and shampoo kinda gal, it’s what I’m used to and what’s available around me. I kept wondering how a bar shampoo was going to work exactly and if it would actually clean my hair or weigh it down.
The first two products I tried were the Damage Control Shampoo Bar and the Wonderbar Conditioner bar. I chose the Damage Control Bar because I colored my hair in the last 5 months and noticed that it kinda dried it out and it needs a bit more TLC. Luckily, the Damage Control bar contains coconut oil, and cocoa butter to nourish the hair and produces an amazing amount of lather. I feel a bit silly but at first I rubbed the bar directly on my head…and then I inserted my brain back in there and realized I could lather the bar in my hands first and get some suds going.
The Wonderbar is a multi-use product in that I can use it to condition my hair AND shave my legs! Somehow the formulators at Sorbet Cosmetics managed to make a heat protectant formula in bar form which is awesome because I curl or straighten my hair almost daily. No lather produces with this bar and I actually prefer to run the ponytail portion of my hair directly on the bar instead of rubbing the bar in my hands first. I like that I could use it to shave my legs and that the bar is going to last me about 5 months because I usually spend a lot on shave creams. That stuff goes fast!
Results with my hair were great! It was never weighed down, dried normally without the use of a blow dryer and keeps my hair soft and bouncy. Now, to try the face and body lotion bars!
I chose the Chocolate-Vanilla Lotion Bar because, well, chocolate. Need I say more? This lotion bar can get a bit softer in warm weather so beware, I keep this one in the packaging it came in because it melts on contact with the skin so I open it like a stick of (food) butter and swipe all over my legs and throw on some sweats after a shower. I wake up to soft, smooth legs that have a nice healthy sheen to them with the coconut oil and cocoa butter soaked in.
The last product I tested with the In Your Face Cleansing Bar, that is said to gently clean the skin but also help acneic or problematic skin. It does have less lather than the shampoo bars and didn’t dry out my face as I was worried about. I even started using it on my upper back since I’m wearing a sports bra from working out a lot lately.
Out of all four products I tried I like the Wonderbar the best. It really smooths my hair like a conventional liquid/cream conditioner would and doubles as a shave protectant. I also like that this brand has the coolest packaging, like ever, that just disintegrates in the shower or sink in seconds! The bars really do have staying power. I thought sitting in my shower they would eventually fall apart but they stay strong in the soap dish and have worked amazingly well. I’m most curious about their self-tanner lotion bars because I always need a little color and mango butter is extremely nourishing to the skin so I kinda feel like it’s made for me.
