Tom’s of Maine – 24 Hour Odor Protection
There are a couple of personal care products that are an absolute must for daily care, and deodorant is one of them. Tom’s Of Maine, has a full line of personal care products that are made from natural resources, no animal products, and has no artificial colors, sweeteners, fragrances or preservatives. On top of all that, anyone who works for the company is also committed to giving 5% of their employee time to volunteering while the company gives 10% of its profits to non profit community based organizations that promote goodness.
The products I will be reviewing in this post are the aluminum-free deodorant and antiperspirant deodorant. The main difference between the two products is that both offer odor protection while an antiperspirant offers wetness protection. As someone who switched over to natural deodorants a few years back, I’ve grown used to having a little wetness while I workout or deal with a hot summer day. I find if the odor is gone than it really isn’t an issue for me.
I decided to give the Tom’s of Maine antiperspirant the test first as I hadn’t used one in a very long time and wanted to see if it offered true wetness protection. The scent I received was natural powder which smelled good and swiped on nicely. It left no residue on any of my shirts which I appreciate and seemed to do the job. Not sure if it really is 24 hour protection because I tend to take an extra shower here and there but did notice that none of my shirts were sweat through after a nice walk around the park in the sun. Aluminum in this formula stops sweat in its tracks and prevents it from bleeding through your favorite shirts, while Olive extract helps kill any odor.
After a couple of days I switched over to the aluminum-free deodorant in “fresh apricot” and have been using it ever since. I love the soft fruit scent of the product and also found that it glide on comfortably. I do notice I get a little wetness in the pits after a nice walk around the neighborhood in the afternoon but feel I could pull this off even if I still worked in an office. The key is to kill the scent and no one will think your Pig Pen from the Peanuts. Because you are still allowed to perspire, the formula works in a different way to kill odor by using zinc, lemongrass, and hops. I only felt I needed one swipe in the morning to last me all day. If I need to get another tube I’ll look into the other scents because lemongrass and honeysuckle rose sound like they would smell really good. I also think I would like the roll on versions I see in their online store.
Out of the two I prefer the Aluminum-free deodorant version because it smells nice and I don’t think I need the extra wetness protection. I will however keep it on hand in case I need the switch for a silk blouse kind of day. Tom’s Of Maine deodorant and anti-persiprant are available in a variety of places such as Target, Walgreens, or online— and at an affordable price which is a double bonus in my book!

I tried Tom’s when I first went cruelty free and was really disappointed in it. I felt like it actually made me smell bad shortly after I put it on! Maybe My body was still detoxing from regular deodorants. I almost feel like I should give it another try after reading this. That is one thing I do miss, is “normal” deodorant/antiperspirant (even though I know it’s bad for you).
I just can’t get used to being slightly damp/almost smelly all the time. I’ve tried Schmidts which I love, but for travel sometimes you want something you can swipe and go, and Kiss my Face, which is nice, but again, slightly damp all the time (I’m a sweater).

I am glad this works for you. I have to admit: deodorant is the last thing on my list that I just can´t get a CF version that works for me. They all make me stink… 😉

I totally understand about the stinky detox. When I first tried crystal deodorants a few years back I went through a week of feeling funky. But now I feel like I smell fresh and dont have to worry about it. And I’ve got a fiance and some pretty straight forward friends who will let me know if I’ve got a foul scent going on, lol

For some it takes a while to go through what I call detox stink. Its like your body has to go through this week process of kinda smelling funky before a aluminum-free deo works. I stuck through it and now I couldn’t be happier!

I absolutely LOVE the Tom’s antiperspirant. I do not like wetness and this works well if not better than the other antiperspirants I’ve used.

How long did this take you? I can not imagine walking around for weeks stinky! lol

Tom’s doesn’t work on me unfortunately 🙁
Any recommendations? I’ve heard Lavilin and Jason’s are really good ones. Gonna pick one of them up at Whole Foods next week.
