Going green isn’t as hard as you might think. You might know to recycle and turn out the lights, but what about turning your beauty routine green? It’s easy to change your daily beauty regime so it’s healthier for you and for the Earth.
Make Your Own Beauty Products
Skip the harsh chemical hair and face masks. Celebrate Earth Month by using items from your pantry and refrigerator to make even more effective masks. They smell better, are easy to make and give you the same benefits without any chemical side effects.
Multi-Tasking Beauty
Is your beauty bag bursting at the seams? Give it and the environment a break by buying multi-tasking beauty products. BB and CC creams for instance often contain foundation, primer, concealer, moisturizer and SPF. One tube versus at least four. Less waste and you save time on your makeup.
Opt For Natural Ingredients
Every time you use products with chemicals and toxins, you’re not just exposing yourself to them. You rinse off the products, throw excess in the trash or wash it down the sink. These ingredients are bad for the environment. Read the labels on any products you buy and avoid ingredients such as synthetic fragrances, parabens, phthalates and talc. Natural is always best.
Buy Reusable Bags
You usually end up with plastic bags every time you buy new beauty products. Avoid the waste by taking your own reusable bag with you. Some stores even offer discounts if you have your own bag.
Energy Efficient Styling
How much energy does your flat iron or blow dryer use? Any heat styling tools require energy to get hot. Some brands now offer eco-friendly versions that work just as well. The only real difference is they use far less energy.
Skip Bottled Water
Staying hydrated should be part of any beauty regime. Bottled water is convenient, but horrible for the environment. Start Earth Month right by adding a water filter to your faucet or using a filtered pitcher system. Reusable water bottles with built in filters are also a great option. Filters drastically reduce waste in landfills.
Look For Eco Packaging
Some brands use large packages or non-recycled plastics for their products. Help save the environment a little at a time by buying from brands that use minimal packaging. Many brands are even making packaging from recycled bottles and bags. It’s as easy way to go green.
Green is easier than ever. Pay attention to what you buy and do your part to make the Earth a better place. Do yourself a twofer by considering using products from responsible and sustainable brands like Tom’s of Maine which gives 10% of it’s profits back to the people and keeping our planet gorgeous as ever! Did you know their employees each volunteer their time to save this planet? Part of their “Our Reason For Being” mantra and stewardship model focuses on creating a better environment for all. Each and every employee donates their time and efforts in rehabilitating our mother earth, in 2014 alone they removed 11,000 lbs of unnecessary packaging waste from our landfills! Pretty impressive! If you want to be part of their movement, check out the Natural Care Brigade, a partnership between Tom’s of Maine and Terracycle that focuses on packaging waste. Want to see their amazing work in action? You can watch this video here how they (any you) can make Earth day every day.
Finally, did we mention Tom’s of Maine was founded the same year as Earth Day in 1970? And Jen’s birthday! Also the birthday month of My Beauty Bunny! 🙂

Hey Jen great post! We decided to go green and installed the AquaOx whole house water filter last year: http://www.amazon.com/Whole-House-Water-Filter-Aquaox/dp/B015OYQKT6 – It saves us tons on buying bottled water from Walmart! We used to buy case after case and now we can simply walk over to any sink in the house and fill up a Nalgene 🙂 Our water now tastes better than bottled water and saves us a ton of money!

These are amazing tips! I am already using reusable bags, I avoid plastic packaging, I try to save water and energy and I use natural cleaners! I am very curious to try making my own beauty products but it seems very difficult! As a general I think that we should be aware of the trash that we produce and try to reduce it as much as possible! Also the food waste must be eliminated. Thanks for the green ideas!

Fantastic post, and I am with you on all of these.
It only takes a few small steps to do the right things. There are also other benefits to doing some of these, the main one I can see is saving a pretty substantial amount of money!
However, you could go a bit further with the reusable bags point. For example, it doesn’t take much effort to find reusable bags made from a material other than plastic which is ultimately a much better option.

What I personally do is to create natural products based from coconut oil to whiten my teeth. If someone really wants to go green, there is a ton of ways to do it. It all depends on the will… Thanks for the inspiring article even if my comment comes a little bit too late. Hopefully, living green is never too late ! 🙂

Hey!!
The post is pretty good
After reading this I can say that by reducing waste and eliminating our use of toxic chemicals, we can lighten the load on our eco-sphere.
There are now many environmentally friendly products we can use that are safer for our ground water than previously more toxic choices.
We can also make sure that any hazardous substances like used motor oil are recycled or disposed of in the proper way so that it does not contaminate our water.
Thank you so much for sharing these great ideas.
Hope it helps people get inspired to seek a healthy lifestyle.
Keep doing good work God Bless U!!

Bottle water will cost you a fortune over time. We have installed a filter that fits onto the faucet for around $30 and it works a treat. We have saved a mini fortune.

Great job on this list. I personally think these are the easiest things to do and yet usually taken for granted by many. Like hydrating yourself without harming the environment. I really don’t get why some people would opt for the temporary convenience of bottled water over its expected long-term negative outcome on the environment. I have written an article about the usage of bottled waters in America and the statistics I’ve provided in there would surprise you. So, I would love for you to check it out. 🙂

Reusing some things is a good way to save money and to protect the environment.
For example, I am not using a paper or a notebook to keep my data about my clients, I use a laptop to keep my orders, and this way I can see who ordered my products, what they ordered and when they did it.
Also, if I need to find an old client, I simply use the search option and I find what I need in just a second, instead of searching a dozen of papers or notebooks to find a client that bought my products in the summer of 2007 or even earlier.
