I am one of the palest people you will ever meet. And, you know what? I’m okay with that! I actually really like the contrast of pale skin with my dark hair (kind of the opposite of a very tan girl with blond hair). So, when Sinead Norenius, the founder of Beautisol (speaking of gorgeous blond girls with nice tans!), gave me a sample of her All Seasons Glow self-tanner, I was a bit skeptical. It actually took me about a year to try the sample, because I just didn’t think I needed it. Well, now I’m kicking myself for not trying it sooner! I still look like myself – just a bit more healthy!
The All Seasons Glow self-tanner gives a very light, natural-looking color to even the fairest of maidens (like myself)! I don’t look like a Jersey Shore guidette or an Oompa Loompa – I just look like I actually go outside for 15 minutes a day (like you’re supposed to I hear…).
What I love the most about my new look is that it makes me look thinner and hides skin imperfections. In fact, when I use it on my face, I don’t necessarily need to use foundation. The secret is to apply a thin layer to your face and then take a q-tip to remove the tanner from any blemishes or dark spots. That will give you a nice, even color. Beautisol has actually come out with a facial skin type-specific tanner (great for oily, combination or dry skin). I haven’t had a chance to try it yet, but I’ll definitely give you guys an update when I do.
Beautisol’s self-tanners have less of that gross tanner smell (supposedly 80% less than other leading brands), but I did still smell it. I also have an EXTREMELY sensitive nose (as all my friends know), so it would be impossible for me not to smell it. I would be curious to hear what other people (with normal noses) think.
The other thing I love is that these self-tanners are paraben-free and full of good-for-your-skin ingredients like macadamia seed oil, kukui seed oil and Vitamin E. Your skin will benefit from the added antioxidants and moisturizers, but there is no oily residue or anything like that. My skin just felt smooth and tan afterward.
Oh – and there’s a slight bronze guide color, so you can see where you are putting the cream. I put it on at night and then shower off in the morning.
Self-tanning Tips:
- Exfoliate and shave the night before or several hours before applying.
- Apply tanner to freshly washed skin (I use it after showering at night.)
- Use a slightly damp q-tip to remove excess tanner from blemishes, beauty marks and dark spots.
- Use a light lotion before applying tanner – go a little heavier on rougher areas (like feet, elbows, knees, etc.)
- Use your ring finger to apply tanner to the undereye area for a lighter touch.
- Beautisol also sells exfoliating gloves (these are awesome!) and back applicators (I haven’t tried one but I want to).
- Watch Beautisol’s how-to videos before using. Great tips and tricks here!
