I have been a fan of Black Phoenix Alchemy Lab since I was in high school (which was um…a while ago…). I have always loved the dark, macabre vibe of the brand that specializes in perfume oils with names like Aperotos Eros, Dance of Death, and How Doth the Little Crocodile. Every scent is unique and hand-blended. In a world where everything is mass produced and available world wide, it’s nice to see that brands like this can still exist.
Black Phoenix Alchemy Lab specializes in formulating intriguing, compelling body and household blends with a dark, romantic, and sexual tone. Our scents run the aesthetic gamut of romance era, Renaissance, Medieval and Victorian formulas, pagan and mythological blends, and horror / Gothic-themed scents. By utilizing our knowledge of homeopathy and aromatherapy, the conceptual theories of hermetic alchemy, and the aesthetic artistry of perfumery, we have mastered the art of encapsulating allegorical ideas into singular olfactory experiences.
The oils come in 5 ml amber apothecary bottles, and are inexpensive – most are $17.50 a piece. If you’re not ready to buy a whole bottle, you can buy samples, called “imp’s ears” or commonly called “imps.”
MARY SHELLEY

It was the secrets of heaven and earth that I desired to learn; and whether it was the outward substance of things or the inner spirit of nature and the mysterious soul of man that occupied me, still my inquiries were directed to the metaphysical, or in its highest sense, the physical secrets of the world.
The scent of absinthe, lightning, stormclouds, and laudanum crashing through a veil of soft Victorian oriental perfume.
Mary Shelley is from the 2013 Halloween collection. This is one of my faves so far. It’s a sexy earthy scent, with a bit of absinthe liquor mixed in. Mary Shelley would be proud!

No man knows till he has suffered from the night how sweet and dear to his heart and eye the morning can be.
Bram Stoker is from the 2013 Halloween collection. Bourbon vetiver with opoponax, Italian bergamot, and hay absolute.
This is definitely a more manly scent, although it can be worn by women too. To me it smells like a sexy, mysterious man who just appeared at the foot of your farm from the woods beyond. But is he really a man? Or something more?
White Rabbit is from the Mad Tea Party collection. Being a beauty bunny, I had to try this one! It’s one of my boyfriend’s faves for me to wear – definitely more on the girly side, but still with spicy and earthy tones. Strong black tea and milk with white pepper, ginger, honey and vanilla, spilled over the crisp scent of clean linen.
