How to Choose Products That Work For Your Hair
With all the thousands of options for hair care out there it can make choosing one shampoo and one conditioner tough. Since so many competitors are pushing their hair lines, many people start to think, “Is there even a difference between all of these?” There is a difference and it all comes down to ingredients, quality of ingredients, and the order in which they are labeled on the bottles. Here is how I narrow it down and choose the right hair care product for myself.
Start with your main hair concern. Common concerns: damaged, colored, dry/brittle, oily, fine, coarse, limp, fluffy. Use a professional line. The reason the professional lines cost more is because the ingredients, quality, and amount of ingredients used are better. Some drugstore brands claim they have trendy oils in them but if you pick up the bottle and look at the order of ingredients, the oils are pretty low on the list. This means you really are not getting much of anything besides fillers in your product. FYI: Fillers add build-up on your hair and can suffocate it, in turn making your hair become dry and brittle. Have you ever heard anyone say that their shampoo just stops working and they need to switch? The real problem is that they have too much build up on their hair from using the wrong product.
Go with what your stylist recommends to you. Your stylist is there to help you get healthy hair. We go to cosmetology school to learn everything there is to know about hair including it’s health, and protecting the integrity of our client’s hair. If you trust your stylist to cut your hair or color it, trust what they recommend for you to use on your hair. We want you to have the best hair possible! If you do not trust your stylist, it may be time to see a new one.
If you need a recommendation for a shampoo and conditioner line, try any of the products from Sudzz FX. Sudzz Fx is cruelty free, contains organic oils and is sulfate free. The ingredients in their products promote a healthy scalp and healthy hair. The company isn’t under the mega companies like L’oreal or Estee Lauder like so many other brands. Healthy hair is what will help make the hair manageable and resolve a lot of hair issues like frizz or dryness. There are no hidden sulfates in Sudzz FX products which many products that claim to be sulfate free still hide. I trust Sudzz FX for my own hair, as well as for my clients hair in the salon.
Tip on using conditioner:
Use the product correctly. Some conditioners come with instructions to leave it on for 2-5 minutes, some say to rinse it our right away after applying. Always make sure to rinse the product out well and use it from roots to ends. Putting conditioner on your roots isn’t what makes hair look oily, not rinsing it all out does, along with using the wrong product. Nourish the roots of your hair for healthy, shiny locks along with the rest of your hair.

Very nice post. I completely agree with you that one should always use shampoo or conditioners under the guidance of professional hair stylist that works for your hair and suits you. I always take help of my hairstylist whenever I am going to try new product; try – http://goo.gl/JmgXyF . Thanks for sharing this post.

Thanks, great post. I am using a professional shampoo and mask that my hairdresser recommended me. The brand is called Londa/Rotus, and it`s formula is perfect from blonde, bleached hair. I really see a big improvment on my hair and I am now using this products for over 2 years.

I used the cheap hair products for years. Now I’m dabbling in the more expensive brands found at salons. Redken is one of my favorites so far. I love finding new products though. Where can I find Sudzz FX?

I love salon quality products! This is great advice! My biggest hair concern used to be split ends but I haven’t had this problem for awhile now. I’m using one that is newer but more salons are starting to carry it.

Your hair does not need to be washed every night and for those of us who need to fix dry hair quickly, washing can exacerbate the dryness issue further.

There is no doubt that what you put into your hair matters. And unfortunately, the higher priced hair products are typically of better quality. I like to think about my shampoo and conditioner the same way I think about ice cream. There’s a reason why Haagen Dazs ice cream is so darn expensive (and so good). They use the highest quality ingredients and stay away from cheap substitutes and fillers. And the same goes for hair products. The most expensive shampoo and conditioners are the ones packed with the richest ingredients.
Also, before buying and using any hair or skin product, I highly recommend doing some research. There is a laundry list of ingredients in many hair/skin products that are linked to cancer. So please, just be careful and always do pre-purchase research.

If your hair is really dry, deep-condition at home. Apply conditioner to clean, damp hair; slip on a plastic cap and let your hair absorb for 30 minutes.

Wash hair sparingly and use a good-quality shampoo. Washing hair too often can leave hair dried out, leached of its natural oils, and may damage your hair. Aim to shampoo your hair at most every other day or only twice a week.

Since I color my hair I prefer a SLS free shampoo and a deep conditioner like Redken. I hate to say it but stylists often recommend super expensive products because they get a commission and are told to push products quite often.
