Coachella Music Festival Hair and Makeup Ideas 2018
It’s been forever since I’ve been to a music festival, but every year there is a huge buzz around Coachella and music festival makeup and style in Los Angeles. Everyone wants to go to the biggest summer party of the year with a mix of MAJOR glitter, bright colors, braids, and an eclectic mix of ’70s, ’90s and rave/EDM-inspired looks.
Even if you’re not going to Coachella or a music festival this spring break, let’s take a look at some festival makeup ideas you can rock at any outdoor pool party or BBQ.
NYX Ultimate Electric Palette – This one blew me away with the intensity and pigmentation of the shadows. So many times drugstore makeup brands just don’t get it right, but with this palette, they scored! It has matte, shimmer and metallic/glitter versions of periwinkle blue, yellow lime green, hot fuchsia pink and turquoise. They are all easily blendable and buildable, and really fun to play with! Whether it’s a music festival look, or you’re going for that mermaid makeup or unicorn makeup vibe, this is a must have. You can get it on Amazon for $18. It’s a little pricier than some drugstore makeup palettes, but clearly the money has gone into the formula and it’s still light years cheaper than higher end palettes with similar colors.
Cover FX Shimmer Veil and Glitter Drops – If you want metallic shimmer, Cover FX will not disappoint! The Cover FX Shimmer Veil is a gorgeous liquid eyeshadow highlighter that you can use alone (pat it on with the wand and blend out with a brush or your fingertip) or as a highlight below the brow or in the center or corners of your eye. Here I have swatched (L-R): Celestial (pearl pink shimmer), Moon Stone (topaz dark pink with brown tones), Amethyst (violet), Magic (champagne pink) and the Glitter Drops in Mirage (cream with a hint of gold). The Shimmer Veils also look really pretty on top of eye makeup as a super shimmery topper.
Glitter Drops is an INTENSE shimmery highlighter that you can use on eyes, cheeks, lips or body. It has chunks of glitter, so unfortunately, like all glitter products, it makes my pores look huge. I like it as a topper for eyeshadow, but not on my cheeks. I’m generally not the target market for this type of product, so I’m okay with that! If you are a glitter fiend, you’ll love the Glitter Drops. You can also mix them with face or body lotion to get a more subtle look. It also comes in pink or light blue options.
Fun Sexy Hair Mermaid Glow Getter – This hair glitter is pretty much made for music festival braids! It comes in a super easy squeeze tube with applicator brush so you can put it right in your part, or coat a section of hair with it. It’s a fairly thick gel that you could probably also use to scrunch your roots, but I think it will show up best in a part. See my review of IGK Foamo – also a great option for an outdoor music festival! I love that this is super easy and involves zero commitment for root glitter looks! Glitter is always hard to capture in a still photo, but there are multi-colored glitter pieces – it’s not quite as blue as it looks in the bottle.
Urban Decay 24/7 Glide On Eye Pencils – Urban Decay has pretty much every color eyeliner you could ever want – from sophisticated to sassy. For music festival makeup looks, try Yeyo (white), Woodstock (cool pink), Asphyxia (violet), Electric (bright blue) and Oil Slick (glitter charcoal). These eyeliner pencils are very easy to apply and they won’t melt off in the heat.
Urban Decay Hi Fi Shine Ultra Cushion Lip Gloss – These new lip glosses are a great addition to your festival makeup look. They are NOT STICKY at all, which is shocking to me because I’m usually anti-lip-gloss in general! They also have a minty taste, which I love. They feel very hydrating and they come in a million trillion shimmery colors. I’ll swatch these for you soon!
You can obviously go way crazier with the sparkle and glitter than I did in this look if that suits your fancy. Some really hardcore faux lashes would be good with this look. I like the ones from Sheree Cosmetics. I feel like the glitter highlighter is really not flattering for my large pores. Side note – my skin is peeling from the use of some pretty hard core exfoliating AHAs, so be kind! Also kids – listen up – you don’t always have to have a cat eye! It’s not required – especially if you have hooded eyes or you’re past a certain age. You can wear a cat eye at any age, but I’m just saying – don’t feel pressured to! YOU DO YOU!

This is why makeup is so much fun. You can transform yourself with these colors for the right occasion and then go back to being normal the next day. (LOL on normal). These colors are just incredible and beautiful.

If I was younger, I would totally be into Mermaid and Unicorn looks. As it is, I like to do toned down versions.
