Diets And Other Non-Genetic Factors May Be Contributing To Your Hair Loss and Baldness!
You might have to start assuming some of the responsibility when it comes to losing your luscious locks. Most of my clients or my family (men and women) have brought up the topic of hair thinning, hair loss or baldness. This sparked my curiosity to find solutions that might help them. Understanding that there are genetic factors, I felt there had to be something else to it and I was surprised by what I learned. We do have some control over hair loss. It is not all heredity.
Diet and Nutrition
The typical American diet is high in fat, animal protein, salt and sweets and is deficient in the vitamins necessary for hair retention and growth. Skipping meals, limited diet, under eating, sudden weight loss and malnutrition are also factors in hair loss and balding.
By having a low fat diet and including the essential vitamins (B-vitamins, biotin, inositol, vitamin c, vitamin e and zinc) will help to sustain and promote hair growth therefore you are increasing your chances of having your hair longer and slowing down the balding process.
Medical Issues
You might be experiencing some treatable medical issues that can be causing your hair to thin, fall-out, or cause premature balding. By going to your doctor you can find out if you are experiencing nutritional deficiencies, or toxic metal contamination. There are also several hormonal issues that are found to wreak havoc on your tresses such as certain deficiencies, menopause, pregnancy, childbirth, and even your birth control. Certain medications, intestinal and other infections may also cause hair issues.
Chemical Exposure
Most shampoos on the market (approximately 95%) are full of harmful chemicals that are believed to cause damage to hair follicles, potentially resulting in hair loss. Sodium lauryl sulfate (SLS), ammonium lauryl sulfate (ALS), sodium chloride and formaldehyde are among the most common.
The majority of Americans color their hair and expose themselves to potential hair loss risks. Most hair loss that is incurred during coloring is only temporary. In some cases the hair loss might be more permanent which is believed to be caused by common allergens and irritants found in most hair colors.
Your Solution!
Become a label reader. They are still not sure on all of the long term side effects of these products. Some are even believed to be cancer causing carcinogens. By choosing a safer alternative like vegan, cruelty free Organic Salon Systems, you can still reap the benefits of hair color, lightening, perming, smoothing, and styling all without sacrificing your health and your hair. You will even be removing factors out of the hair loss, baldness equation.
Don’t just sit by and watch your hair go down the drain. Take a proactive stance. After you have tried everything else, gone to the doctor and nothing has worked, then you can blame your MOMMA!

Try John Masters Organics products. They're super gentle on the scalp, too. I usually get mine from Charleston Naturally.
Thanks for the article!

I've been dealing with hair loss for like 10 years now. It's so frustrating because no matter what I do, I can't seem to stop my hair from falling out, and I've tried just about everything. I've been diagnosed with having "temporary" hair loss – which never ends. Unfortunately female hair loss is becoming a new epidemic.

Hi Jeni – do you take birth control? That can have an effect (as I'm finding out) on your hair. I'm taking silica supplements and zinc, and trying various hair products (Bosley is one). I'll let you know how they work, but so far I think the silica is really helping!

You absolutely set the best examples or should I say factors that causes hair loss. Your post is indeed a great stuff to read which probably gives an idea about possible methods that can be applied to stop hair loss.

Female Balding says
It is no secret that hair loss is considered a problem. People don’t see it as a medical condition that can pose a serious threat to their health; rather, they see it as a devastating blow to their physical appearance, something today’s cosmetically obsessed society puts a premium on.
Female Hair Loss says
it is important to start treating baldness in women as early as possible. You may not think it is a major problem at first, but it is best to get a head start on treatment and not let this thinning turn into baldness.

Health of our hair depends largely on what we eat…a healthy nutritious diet is must…moreover, a protein rich diet would be ideal.

All tips are great. But the ultimate solution is hair restoration. Please think before do it.

This is a great post for certain kinds of hair loss. If your thinning is random and all over the scalp, then it very well could be caused by one of the factors that you point out here. However, if it is something that runs deeper, say for example the DHT that causes male pattern baldness, you likely won’t find that one of these things is the issue. In any case, good advice here regardless of whether someone is losing their hair.

This is a great article! Too many people assume the only way to treat thinning hair is with Mindoxidil, special shampoos, etc. While those all help, having a healthier body will result in healthier hair. Proper nutrition and exercise can greatly slow the loss of hair.

I like the information that you offer regarding chemical exposure. One tip that I offer my readers is to swap out your fabric softener to a kinder product and swap out your pillow cases to smoother softer ones such as silk. These are great for reducing breakages in the night.

Thanks for the post. I was just under the impression that hair loss was hereditary. It is good to know that it could be cause by nutritional deficiencies, toxic metals, or a hormonal issue. My hair seems to just fall out easily. I will have to go have some tests done.

Also, lets not forget about genetics when it comes to hair loss in men. Anyway it would be a mistake not to revise and check your diet and daily habits, which could be contributing to this condition. What you do and ingest to your body, are always reflected in your overall health. Hair loss is not the exception. Article is dead on.

Thank you for sharing. As with everything, prevention is easier than fixing the issue afterwards. Using organic hair products and using a healthy diet can help with preventing hairloss. Unfortunately, when hair is lost then the methods are typically way more invasive or chemical in nature. Great article!

Most people rarely take the time to find out why their hair is becoming thin or falling out. This is primarily the reason they fail at finding the right treatment. Instead, they panic and start buying products to put on their scalp.
They also don’t take into consideration the kind of food they eat… Just like you highlighted, lack of protein, essential vitamins and zinc can also lead to hair loss

Good to hear about silica! I started taking that recently too. And no – I don’t take birth control – it’s too harsh on my system! Sea buckthorn oil capsules have been a HUGE help for growing my hair.
