MUSIC FESTIVAL STYLE GUIDE
There’s no place like music festivals to try something new! Fashion is a major focus of these festivals and it’s the perfect place to be confident and step out of your comfort zone. When else do you get to wear a flower crown, fanny pack, and cut off jeans with a peasant top? The dress code for these events is whatever makes you feel comfortable and ready to party. Here are some essential fashion pieces to help embrace your inner bohemian wild child.
1. Flower Crown
I just stumbled across this new website Flower Gypsies and I have fallen in love. There is something about wearing a flower crown that makes you feel free, peaceful, and dainty. It’s not everyday you get to rock one of these, so a music festival is the perfect time. Another thing I love about Flower Gypsies is that they pay “a tribute to Mother Earth and her being so kind to let us live on her soil. Flower Gypsies uses 100% recyclable and eco-friendly materials”.
2. Floppy or Fedora Hat
Festivals tend to last for whole weekends the combination between the heat and dancing all day long leaves your hair looking dirty and sweaty. Nothing covers it up better than an adorable fedora or floppy hat. It is the perfect stylish solution! Hat by San Diego Hat Co.
3. Arm Candy
Layering tons of boho bracelets is a music festival must. Some people stack their arms with bracelets up to their elbows, which is a little much in my opinion… but feel free to go crazy. I feel like a little girl again putting on all my mom’s jewelry. You can’t really over do the bracelets. My personal favorites are these delicately woven brightly colored bracelets from The Dressing Room. They come in all different colors that are fun to dress up for music festivals. The good thing is once festival season is over these bracelets makes a fabulous stand-alone piece as well, so they will get plenty of use.
4. Crochet Halter Top with Maxi Skirt
The most important thing to remember when picking out your outfit is comfort. You will be wearing it all day in the heat surrounded by hundreds of people. You want to wear something that you can sit down in, you can dance around in, and you could live with it getting wrecked. This maxi skirt from Nasty Gal with my favorite crochet halter top is a solid outfit.
5. Endless Summer Dress
Whether you choose a maxi dress or a short dress they are both adorable. Free People is always a great store to look for Music Festival attire. Free People Circle of Flowers Slip.
6. Kimono
If you decided to go with cut off denim shorts and a crop top then I suggest adding a kimono. That way if you get a little chilly after sweating all day you can easily throw that on. It is light and covers your skin just enough. Hettie Tie Front Chiffon Kimono from boohoo.
7. Booties or Converse – No Sandals
Chuck Taylor Converse Black from Zappos.
Do NOT wear sandals. Your feet will hate you by the end of day one because you are on them all day, and you can guarantee that your little feet will get stepped on by a 200+ lb. guy. Ouch! Bring a variety of vegan ankle boots or converse to ensure the safety of your sweet feet.
8. Fanny Pack or Cross Body Bag
Urban Outfitters Fanny Pack
Big Buddha Luna from Zappos.
You want to keep your hands free. I always choose to wear a fanny but if that’s not your style a cross the body bag is a must.
**Don’t forget lip balm, tissues (it may save you from a paperless port-a-potty), and baby wipes to keep you from stinking up the campgrounds while you sweat enough liquid to fill a lake. Ewwww!
9. Lightweight Jacket
Collection B New York Drawstring Cotton Jacket
It is always good to have a jacket with you. The last thing you want to be is cold. There is no where to go inside and lets face it I am sure throughout the weekend someone will spill a drink on you. BRR.
10. Retro Sunnies

Overall, music festivals are just as much about the fashion as they are the music. Seriously! They are the boho, desert version of fashion week. Think about it, celebrities come, bloggers and publicists are taking “Street Style” pictures (that could be of you), people will be taking selfies everywhere, you’ll hit up after parties, get blisters in the same places and even hear the same music. The best part of this kind of fashion week is you can buy a general admission ticket, dress casual, and jump up and down as if you are 10 years old again. This is a weekend you’re allowed to bust out your inner bohemian inner spirit. Moments made at music festivals are worth every penny. Have fun this Music Festival Season!

Sigh. You aren’t wrong by any means, but this just makes me so sad. Apparently I’m a crochety old person, because I miss when music festivals were actually music festivals and not fashion parades. In the last decade alone, Coachella has gone from a regional music event to a bloated fashion show that actual bohemian types can’t even afford to attend anymore.

You know those denim shorts would look fabulous with some Bandelettes. I started wearing them this summer and now I seem to wear them all the time under my shorts. The are very sexy and gives a little more length to short shorts. http://www.bandelettes.com

Totally agree! I don’t understand people who wear sandals at festivals at all! It’s bad enough when people wear sandals or high heels to gigs in general…
