Some of you may have heard of the Dermalogica Precleanse. Basically, it’s an oil-based cleanser that you use before you cleanse with your normal facial cleanser. It seems counter-productive to put oil on an already oily face (like mine), but it works. Follow me here and I’ll explain.
The premise is that “like attracts like,” so the natural oils in the precleanse will attract the oil on your face and remove it. You start with dry skin – rub a bit of the oil-based cleanser on your face and then add a little water. It will turn into a milky emulsion, which you can then wash off.
Then, if you have combination or oily skin, follow up with your regular cleanser. The Dermalogica Daily Microfoliant and Special Cleansing Gel are my faves. I haven’t tried the Dermal Clay Cleanser yet, but that one looks great too. The Clearing Skin Wash has salicylic acid, which is great for acne-prone skin, but I have sensitive facial skin, so I use that one on my chest and back only.
The Precleanse is especially useful when you’re wearing a lot of makeup or heavy sunscreen. It cuts through to get all that gunk off your face. I am a new fan!

Everyone is so afraid of using oil-based products, but it’s so unwarranted. There’s a cleanse I’m totally going to try soon that ONLY uses oils and is supposed to be amazing.
It’s so simple as all you do is mix castor oil with either extra virgin olive oil, almond oil or jojoba oil.
Sounds kinda crazy but I’m excited to give it a try!

That sounds great Vanessa – please let us know how that goes! Keep in mind that some oils are better for your face than others – I think it has to do with molecule size, but I’m not a chemist or a dermatologist, so I don’t know for sure. 🙂

I really liked the Dermalogica products that I tried so far and this looks pretty good.
I used to swear by oil-cleansing method with EVO but lately it’s a bit too heavy for my skin. But yes, I’m a believer of double-especially for makeup wearers and to remove sunblock residues more effectively.

Actually, oil based products are quite useful. Sadly, there are a lot of people who think that they are dangerous for the skin. I haven’t used this product, but I definitely will. I will probably become a large fan of this product, since I generally use quite a lot of makeup now and then and something as powerful as this will probably fulfill my need for a good washing solution. Thanks for this info, the product looks like it will satisfy my requirements completely.

I’ve never tried this product, but I have heard some good things about Dermalogica.
I may give it a go after reading your comments. I always hated the idea of oil cleansers. Thanks for the information on this product.

I think it is hard to keep an open mind about washing your face to remove oil and dirt and then putting a “healthy” oil (Castor Oil or Grapeseed Oil) back on to your skin to clean your face. We know that oil helps to nourish, lubricate, moisturize and even soothe the skin for some people. The key is to make sure that the oil is free of the harsh ingredients and chemicals that may cause breakouts. Overall, you have to do what works for your skin. You just have to be open to trying new methods to achieve the best results possible.
