I Love DevaCurl!
After trying every curling shampoo I could find, I finally found one that worked – and they STOPPED making it! Luckily DevaCurl sent me their products to try, and I love them! First, they smell wonderful (a lemongrass scent) and they really work.
When you have curly hair, you really need to keep it moisturized and the older you get, the more important that becomes. Their No-Poo (shampoo) works to keep my scalp clean, but does not strip my hair of its natural moisture. It’s called “No-Poo” because it doesn’t have any lathering agents like SLS (that can dry out your hair). The DevaCurl One Condition leaves my hair soft. And I really like the AnGEL (leave-in gel) that stops the frizzies even in high humidity Louisiana.
The company also sent me a copy of Lorraine Massey”s book Curl Girl – The Handbook. Lorraine is the developer of the DevaCurl line. The book details why you should stop using regular shampoos and silicone gels. It includes info on haircutting for curly hair (never cut it wet) and many personal stories of life with curly hair. These stories are much more dramatic than women with straight hair would ever believe. I once had a woman tell me I could never be a professional (anything) because I had curly hair (What?!!)
DevaCurl products are made from botanical extracts (including grape seed oil, lemongrass, chamomile, rosemary, and more), but more importantly contain no sulphates, parabens, or silicone. If your curls are dry and frizzy, I would definitely give this line a try. I love it!

Vicki,
Thanks for the curly hair article. It seems the hair care manufacturers are finally perfecting their products for the curls. It's nice to hear it straight from the head of a curly haired gal!

I don't know who came up with don't ever cut curly hair wet because it's a myth. I know it's taught in some beauty schools but I wouldn't ever let anyone do that to me. You need to cut it wet and make sure you give it a real good rinse after a cut. I don't know about these products but I've found the only curly hair products that say they do what they're going to do is Ouidad. My is very curly and I've tried just about everything and went to so many places for a haircuts. I went to cosmetology school as well so I learned a lot. I've been cutting hair for more years than I care to reveal oh my gosh. So I have some practical experience as well. There is always something new to learn. I'm going to try Divacurl. but it's hard to give up Ouidad for something else.

You could never be a professional anything because of your hair?! Wow…way harsh. Well, I suppose no worse than the (multiple) people who have told me I'd basically never attract a man unless I learned to straighten my hair. Um, really? I'm going to waste an hour and a half of *every* day wrestling with my flat iron? Nope.

I have long thick very curly hair….do you think i would have a hard time with hot rollers? i would like to use them to take some of the curl out and to create bigger curls, like with the conair jumbo hot rollers…or would my hair kink back up again?

So nice to read a review from THE BUNNY'S mom! Glad you found such a great replacement for your discontinued shampoo. Thank you for the review.

I have been a Deva devotee for almost a decade and even travel back to The Mothership (aka the Devachan Salon in NYC) every year or two for a haircut. I get my color close to home but will not let anyone but Lorraine or one of her trained stylists touch my curls–THAT’S how good she and her products are. Buy them and the books online at her website and try to find a trained stylist in your area. Your locks will never be the same!!

Hot tubs, you might look into Curlformers. I've heard plenty of great reviews using those to elongate tight curls – all without damaging heat. I know if I re-curl my curls from a wet state, I get excellent long hold without kinks or frizz. G'luck!
