Maybe you already know that it’s not the best idea to wash your hair every single day. Daily washing can actually backfire and cause your scalp to produce more oil to compensate! You can read more about the benefits of skipping a day of shampooing here. But of course we still want our hair to look clean by the end of the second (or even third) day. Dry shampoo has become my most recent obsession, saving me time in the mornings that I don’t wash my hair. Giovanni offers a great formula containing vitamins and extracts to strengthen the hair and energize the roots.
I also had the chance to try their new Scalp Serum which soothes, nourishes, and stimulates the scalp using Chinese botanicals. I’m officially a Giovanni devotee. Their products are cruelty free and contain no phthalates, parabens, dyes, sulfates, PEGS, or artificial fragrance. They’re affordable and effective. Read on for the details…
Powder Power Dry Shampoo – 2 in 1 Power Shampoo & Instant Volumizer
Dry shampoo in a powder formula is easy to use, with a pointed tip for precise root application. Features Pro-Vitamin B5 and natural extracts to enhance sheen.
- Gives amazing volume and texture! I like to use it as a root booster even after I’ve just shampooed.
- Really soaks up oil. Leaves a ‘powdery’ feel, but this isn’t a big deal and fades throughout the day.
- Great value. This product has lasted for months.
Only one downside, and simply because I have dark hair:
- White powder makes roots ashy – Giovanni, pretty please can you make a tinted formula for the brunettes??
Scalp serum – Super Potent Concentrate
- Another easy to use design – eye drop applicator allows precise scalp application.
- Stimulated hair and scalp before a shampoo, smelled really nice. I love this as a pre-shampoo scalp refresher and ‘cleanser’ – helps to break up oil and any styling products or powder shampoo that might be lingering in your roots. Cuts down on the time it takes to wash hair!
- Only complaint was the size. A very small bottle (in contrast to the dry shampoo which lasts forever!) Directions say to ‘apply liberally’ but I probably got a total of 12 conservative applications out of this. I wasn’t suffering from dry or itchy scalp so I can’t say if this product is a cure, but I did find it soothing and would purchase again if I ever develop either of those symptoms.
Basically I think that both of these formulas are great. I would definitely buy the dry shampoo again if they made a brunette formula. If you’re a blonde, this is a must-have! The scalp serum was refreshing and since the price isn’t high (only $9.95!) I would re-purchase again because my roots could use some TLC. The powder shampoo also retails for $9.95…in my opinion, great products at a great price!

Excellent reviews, Abi. I like Giovanni and will keep my eyes open for both of these products – always willing to try a new (cruelty-free) hairpoo.

Just thought that you might like to know the origin of the word ‘shampoo’.
Originally it came from Hindi and the Hindi word was cam.po which meant something like press. When it was adopted or copied in English it meant something like massage and then later meant washing or scrubbing the head or hair.
