Halloween is coming and you pagans may find yourselves in need of some cruelty-free vampire red, zombie green, phantom gray, cat black or maybe Lady-of-the-Lake blue.
It’s easy to be a compassionate, evil creature of the night. Just check out this list of sites where you can either buy products or learn how to make your own.
- Halloween makeup kits from Pink Quartz Minerals – “Alien Mermaid,” “Cannibal Jack Sparrow,” “Cat or Lion,” an impressive Zombie kit as well as single eyeshadow colors.
- Vegan eye colors from Shiro, at Suite Ta Bu — deep hues (also part of a Halloween promotional offer)
- Glow-in-the-dark nail polish from the Pangea vegan store and Karma Organics
- More vegan eye colors, from Urban Decay, in “smoking” black, “freakshow” purple and, for Halloween hippies, “peace” turquoise.
- False eyelashes from Urban Decay. (Look for the the little purple pawprint, and click on it to read about the company’s “Marley” logo.)
- The best in supernatural hair colors, from Manic Panic.
- Diva-esque synthetic wigs, also from Manic Panic.
- Anna Wintour ensemble from Stylish Bunny on ThisNext.com – actually, with this one, you’ll shell out some cash but also expand your regular office wardrobe.
- Make your own Halloween makeup. Join the burgeoning DIY population – especially a good idea given the Campaign for Safe Cosmetic’s findings that face paints often contain lead. The Campaign offers food-based paint recipes.
- Fake wounds, warts and more, aka “edible goop” from Smart Mama — a wonderful recipe for something that looks, if not appetizing, certainly goop-y. She also has recipes for fairy glitter, fake blood and face paint.
Note to zombies, when you’re done for the night, wash off brain bits and makeup with vegan “Pumpkin for Brains” soap from battysbath on Etsy.
