I was so excited to try the new Hourglass foundation when I got a sample in the mail (from Influenster)! I’ve always been a big fan of the cruelty free brand. Everything I’ve tried has been high quality and very luxe. The new Vanish Seamless Finish Foundation and Vanish Foundation Brush are no exception. The shade they sent is too light for me, but I can comment on the formula and the brush.
The Vanish foundation comes in a small triangle stick form – not the big, push-up-pop-looking stick foundation that we’re used to. This is great because you can get into smaller areas (around the nose and eyes for example). It’s extremely pigmented (according to the brand there is double the amount of pigment – with the coverage of a concealer), so a little bit goes a long way. You don’t need the giant-sized tubes to get the same amount of coverage. The first time I used it, I put on too much. So that being said, go easy on the application and it will last a long time. Simply add light dots of foundation directly from the stick onto your cheeks, chin and forehead. Hourglass recommends 3 dots on the chin, 3 dots on the tops of the cheekbones and 3 dots on the forehead – I also added one to my nose. Then, blend it out with the Vanish Foundation Brush.
The foundation easily covered my red spots and undereye circles. The coverage is impressive and it doesn’t feel heavy on the skin. I definitely want to try a slightly darker shade to match my skin tone. It comes in an impressive mix of 26 shades, so I’m sure I can find the perfect match. It’s gluten-free, paraben-free, fragrance-free and of course, cruelty-free. I also love that it’s long-wearing and waterproof.

The Vanish Foundation Brush is very impressive to me. It’s vegan and made with synthetic (taklon) hair – which can sometimes means fluffy with not much “grip”. But Hourglass has done it right – the brush is extremely densely packed, angled and crimped, so it has enough grip to pick up the foundation and move it around easily (they call it a “microfiber” feel). The brushes are soft, but have exactly enough texture. This brush is definitely going into heavy rotation with my top 10 makeup brushes!
You can buy the foundation and brush at Hourglass, Nordstrom, Sephora and many other retail stores. Happy shopping!

I recently purchased this foundation, but wasn’t aware that a brush was specifically made to apply it. Is the brush necessary? I have a couple of foundations brushes I can use instead.

is the foundation vegan?

I don’t know for sure, but it’s not listed as vegan, so I would assume not.

Hi Jeanette – I don’t think the brush is necessary. I alternated between the brush and my beauty blender. The brush is nice and very dense, but you may have something that works in your kit.
