How Long Does Makeup Last? Makeup Expiration Dates You Should Know!
Question of the Week: How long does makeup last? And which part of your stash needs to be purged the most?
I recently went through my makeup and beauty stash and got rid of about seven giant bags worth of products. If it was still new or only swatched, I gave it away to friends and family, or donated it to a local women’s shelter. If it was older, or something that should never be shared (mascara for example), I tossed it. It’s amazing how fast things pile up, and how hard it is to let certain things go!
So how long does makeup last? What about skincare? It varies, but if you’re ready to do some spring (or winter!) cleaning, here’s a rule of thumb for how long beauty products last (advice from my skincare coach, Emme Diane):
Skin Care Products ~ 2 years
Makeup Powders ~ 2 years
Sunscreen ~ 1 year
Liquid or Creme foundation ~ 1 year
Lipstick/Lipliner ~ 1 year
Mascara or Eyeliner ~ 3 months

Oh lordy, I have some blushes that are going on almost 10 years… and I still use them 😀 I am good at getting rid of old liquids, lip products and eyeliners/mascaras though! Thanks for this list!

Great information on the dates. A little over a year ago I started to date any new product that I got. Write on with a sharpie or using small stick on labels. This way I know how old they are, also how quickly I am using them.
