How often do you need to wash makeup brushes?

Dirty Brushes? Meet the Lilumia Makeup Brush Cleaning Device!

If you are anything like me, having to clean your makeup brushes can feel like a HUGE hassle when you have a large amount of brushes. I seriously go through my entire stash until I’m down to the last ones before I begin the big clean up. The swirling, the rinsing, drying and repeat method can take a lot of time when you’ve got a beauty blogger’s supply of makeup brushes on hand. But dirty brushes can lead to bacteria – which can cause acne, and even worse – infections!

So, how often do you need to clean your makeup brushes? Here’s a basic guide:

  • Foundation brush – Once a week
  • Powder and Bronzer Brushes – Once a week
  • Blush Brush – Once a week
  • Eye Shadow Brushes – Every 2/3 days
  • Eyeliner Brush – After every application

When I heard about the new Lilumia Makeup Brush Cleaning Device, my ear definitely perked up at the thought of a more efficient way to clean more brushes at once.

Lilumia is a makeup brush cleaning device that can clean up to 6 dirty makeup brushes at one time! Its is a must for all makeup users including professional makeup artists. The Lilumia can fit most standard sized brushes whether you have tall, short, thick, or thin brushes. Its modern and transparent design adds counter top appeal and allows you to watch the cleaning process. Just add water and Lilumia soap, load your brushes, press the power button and walk away. See how it works here.

As a model, Fierra Cruz, the owner and creator of Lilumia, saw a need for a better way to clean the piles of makeup brushes we all collect over time. Dirty makeup brushes breed acne causing bacteria and interfere with creating a flawless makeup application. Not to mention your makeup brushes are an investment, it’s our duty to keep them in tip-top shape (in the least amount of time and effort involved, hopefully).

Lulumia Makeup Brush Cleaner

By cleaning six (yes, you read that right) makeup brushes at once in just 15 minutes, the Lilumia Makeup Brush Cleaning Device will be any makeup lover’s new best friend.  All you do is place six brushes in the cleansing device, push the button and go about your business!  And word has it that it cleans better than hand washing alone so you know they are getting thoroughly cleaned.  The Lilumia works by utilizing their own makeup brush cleansing soap along with a rotating rubber brush agitator. It literally does ALL the work for you!

Hi Jen…I have very sensitive skin with periodic breakouts and rosacea. Can you recommend a gentle cleanser and moisturizer line. I have tried many of them that state for sensitive skin types -with no luck. Thanks, I hope that you are feeling well.
    Sincerely, Blaine

The Lilimia is cute but huge! Not great for small bathrooms. I’d pay $40 for it, not $120. No dishwasher to clean the bristle portion. Also, is the solution cruelty free? Sadly, I don’t think I’ll get one but thanks for the info on how often I should be washing my brushes!

Hi Everyone! Thank you for your comments and we are excited to release the Lilumia to all women out there who hate manually cleaning their brushes! Our solution is cruelty free. Since the Lilumia is a device used for Cleaning your dirty makeup brushes and not applying makeup, we do not recommend having this device in your bathroom. It can be anywhere in your home that is well ventilated to prevent bacteria and also free up counter top space. We will have a special pre launch of the website the end of July offering 20% off and official release Friday August 7th.

lol I am pretty OCD but I don’t wash powder brushes every week since it is a dry product and I don’t use lots of blush or powders anyway. Foundation brush is definitely once a week though.

Hi Blaine – stick to lines that have gentle cleansers and moisturizers without a ton of acne fighters or wrinkle/aging fighters. I would recommend something with aloe and perhaps tea tree oil to keep breakouts away. If you need a spot treatment, Jan Marini’s 5% Benzoyl Peroxide solution is one of my faves. It’s micronized, so it doesn’t irritate my skin.
