Looking to wind down after a long week? The art of meditation has been around for centuries. There is more to meditation than what we can see on the outside. To many, meditation seems boring, and people assume that it is the same as sleeping. Meditation is neither. It is a key that opens the door to your spiritual self. Through meditation we are allowed a chance to escape to a world of peace and harmony.
Anyone can practice the art of meditation. You can meditate for 5 minutes or 3 hours, however long you feel you need to meditate. Meditation allows us to analyze our daily life issues without interruption or distraction. It helps to reduce stress and assists in keep your body healthy.
Start with these basic steps:
1. Find a comfortable place away from distractions. This can be anywhere from your bedroom to your backyard. Find a place where you feel most at peace.
2. Sit in a comfortable position. Lots of people sit in the traditional lotus position (your legs crossed over one another), but you don’t have to sit this way if it is uncomfortable for you. The most important thing is to sit in a way that is best for you.
3. Close your eyes and take slow deep breaths. When you breathe you will want to breathe slowly and deeply. Try holding your breath for a few seconds before exhaling. Experience how it makes you feel.
4. Focus on your breath. Relax everything. Visualize each body part slowly letting go to complete relaxation. Focus on your breath as you inhale and then exhale. Let go of all your troubles and thoughts. When a thought pops in your head, acknowledge its presence and then let it go.
5. Connect to your inner spirit. Focus on the inner light that is your true self. Release all feelings of sadness, anger, anxiety. Realize that these feelings are just feelings, but not the true you.
6. Inhale, exhale, and then come back to the world. Once you finish your meditation, take one last deep breathe. Open your eyes very slowly and then stretch to awake your body. Go back to your daily routine as your refreshed and renewed self.
What do you notice after you meditate? How does it help your daily life?

Thanks for the simple step by step guide you have provided here, I practiced it today and was really invigorating and it kept me refreshed for long time. It is important to meditate for least three times in a week over what has been happening in ones life. For me it is reminder, I just hope I can continue to do this as part of my daily routine.
Thanks Ken Mac

Hi Lauren,
This is very helpful for those just entering the realm of spiritualism and meditation. For me, meditation is the medication, scientists have already shown the effect on the grey matter present in the human brain, which has shown to be connected to not only psychological as traditional medicine has been presuming so far, it has a physiological response.
Meditation lowers blood pressure, helps with ADD, ADHD, OCD and we have seen that binaural beats along with guided meditation and proper breathing helps in eliminating the symptoms of these labeled conditions which can be cured by simple art of breath control.
Dr. Weil has written a book on the power of breathing, which demonstrates the power of breath and its effectiveness in maintaining a healthy, happy, peaceful life.

Nice review. I can recommend also dropping your shoulders and neck rolling as a starter before meditation.
