I have discovered that there are fairies living in Long Beach. Not the ugly, creepy ones from True Blood. Nope – the beautiful ones that heal you and make you feel good.
Okay, well, when I went to esthetician, Nikki Bradshaw’s Transcend Wellness Studio for a facial/reiki healing session, she emerged from her lush, green garden with a long flowing dress and a big smile. Her soft voice and calming nature immediately put me at ease. I’m pretty sure she’s fairie folk.
Relax.
Nikki says she is a “Wellness Practitioner specializing in the concerns of women exclusively.”
Transcend Wellness Studio offers, “…a fusion of techniques making a shift in consciousness a possibility. Sessions are focused on reducing stress and healing from within. Programs are developed to integrate the mind, body and spirit including guided imagery, Reiki Healing, hypnotherapy, breathing and meditation techniques.”

When I first arrived, I was blown away by the beautiful garden, Moroccan-inspired lounge areas and cozy treatment area (Nikki should be an interior decorator too!). Nikki had me undress in private and put on a terrycloth wrap. I relaxed under the warm blankets and listened to soothing music.
She asked me to take 3 deep, healing breaths (you’d be surprised how often you hold your breath when you’re stressed – I do it a lot in LA traffic!). Then she led me through a relaxing, guided meditation and performed reiki, which is basically laying your hands over someone (without necessarily touching) with the intent to heal. I haven’t had a lot of experience with reiki, so I can’t say a lot about it, except that it felt nice!

Then, she cleansed my face with warm towels, applied a mask and other cruelty free products by Hungarian beauty brand, ilike. She made sure to check the ingredients carefully when I told her I was allergic to Vitamin C.
I think I fell asleep at some point because I was so relaxed. When I woke up, my skin felt soft and wonderful, and I felt refreshed.
