Cruelty Free Acne Treatments from Murad
Acne SUCKS! I’ve tried a lot of acne treatments, and this trio from Murad is one of my all time favorites. I like to go back and forth between salicylic acid acne remedies and benzoyl peroxide acne treatments. I recommend that you experiment to find out which works best for your acne.
I’ve been a fan of Murad since I was in high school, and I’m actually old enough for that to be impressive! As my readers know, I’ve struggled with adult acne for most of my life. The right medications, diet and lifestyle changes have made a huge difference, but if I don’t use the right skincare products, my skin shows it! Today I want to share some of my favorite Murad products that help me keep my adult acne under control.
Some tips for keeping your face clear (that I’m still trying to remember to do!): use a new pillowcase every 2-3 days (or more often if you’re having active breakouts), wash those makeup brushes and sponges OFTEN, and keep your phone away from your face. If you wear sunglasses or glasses like I do at night, make sure to clean them often! We already know that drinking plenty of water is good for our skin, but Dr. Murad also encourages us to EAT our water – by eating more water-rich fruits and veggies every day.
So let’s talk about my favorite Murad acne fighters. There are three easy steps here. Let’s start with the Acne Clarifying Cleanser. I love this cleanser because it fights acne with salicylic acid and it also removes makeup. Never go to bed with your makeup on! Makeup is wonderful but it’s not doing your skin any favors. You only need a pea sized amount. It’s a time released formula, so it actually keeps on working after you rinse!
Next I apply the Acne Clearing Solution. The salicylic acne and tea tree oil go deep into your skin to kill the bacteria that causes acne. It also gives you some light exfoliation, which keeps your skin looking fresh.
You can use this morning and night. As with any acne product, if you find that it gets too drying, switch to once a day (or even every other day). You can apply it to your entire face if you’re very oily, or only to the areas that get breakouts. I find that it shrinks existing pimples and prevents new ones from forming.
And finally, I apply the Oil Control Mattifier. It gives me a matte finish and protects my skin with SPF 15. It’s so important to protect your skin when you’re using salicylic acid or other alpha hydroxy acids. If you plan on being in direct sunlight, I recommend adding additional SPF. The moisturizer feels a bit heavy when you first apply it, but give it a second. It absorbs and leaves you with a nice, matte canvas.

When I worked at Ulta Murad Acne Control products were what I’d recommend. There was a great set there that I liked to show customers. I’ve used the cleanser only and that helped me with some breakouts.

I love the oil-free mattifier, but haven’t tried the other two. Currently, I’m on dapsone and salicylic, but I know I’ll go back to BP one day!
