NARS Velvet Lip Glide Review

Sad update – June 2017 – NARS is no longer cruelty free – the company has decided to sell in China, a country that requires animal testing. Click here for details.

Are you tired of the matte lip trend? So many matte lipsticks are super drying and seem to wear off in the middle of my lips but stick around the edges until the end of time. I like the look, but mattes are usually not wearable for me – especially if my lips are peeling (which they have been a lot lately!).

NARS Velvet Lip Glide Review

I am happy to report that NARS has a new line of Velvet Lip Glide lippies that are super creamy and wearable. They apply like a gloss, but they are heavily pigmented like a lipstick. NARS calls them “semi-matte” and long-lasting, but I feel like I need to re-apply fairly frequently. The formula is made with water lily flowers and white tea extract for antioxidant protection and ultimate hydration.

NARS Velvet Lip Glide Swatches

They come in 13 shades. NARS sent me four shades to share with you:

Bound – described as a “soft pink” but definitely more of a mauve on me

Danceteria – fuschsia hot pink

No. 54 – bright, warm red

Toy – deep vampy aubergine / plum

NARS Velvet Lip Glide No 54

In this pic, I’m wearing No. 54, which is pretty bright, but I think I can pull it off. What do you guys think? Major thank you to Patricia Lynn Laas for the hair cut, color and style in this photo.

Semi-mattes make you look gorgeous but just as you say, fade rapidly. Anyways I like them all, No. 54 which looks very good on your skin tone is now on my to buy list, I think it will look nice on me too.
