I have had Hawaii on the brain lately because I’ll be taking a much needed vacation in Maui for my birthday in a few weeks. I have never been, and I cannot wait to hang out on the beautiful beaches and soak up the sun! In honor of beach vacations everywhere, I did a quick and easy messy-hair-don’t-care, beachy makeup look today with 100% Pure and other cruelty free beauty products.
Obviously sunscreen is a must when heading out to the beach. I got some bad hyperpigmentation (brown sun spots) on my cheeks from a change in meds recently that messed with my hormones. So, I have been using Jan Marini Antioxidant Daily Face Protectant SPF 33 for daily sunscreen. It’s water resistant and lasts about two hours, or 80 minutes if you’re swimming or sweating. It has antioxidants and “PhytoMelanin” for extra UV protection. For sitting-on-the-beach days when I’m not as worried about my makeup, I will trade up for MyChelle Sun Shield Clear Stick SPF 50. It’s reef-safe and made with moisturizing ingredients and zinc oxide.
For my makeup look, I started with the Milk Makeup Blur Stick (a colorless, holy grail primer that makes my pores less visible), and then used Tarte Amazonian Clay Full Coverage Foundation (applied with a Beauty Blender) and Tarte ShapeTape as concealer. If you don’t need a lot of coverage, and just want a natural glow, try the 100% Pure BB Cream.
I used 100% Pure Bamboo Blur Powder to set my foundation and concealer. It’s very finely milled and highly absorbent. It’s made from only ONE ingredient: bamboo silica. It’s natural, vegan, cruelty free and gluten free. I like that the packaging has a mesh screen on top, so you just have to dip your brush into it instead of tipping it into the cap (which gets so messy). I used a large powder brush to apply a thin layer to my face – concentrating on the areas that get the most shine.
Next, I used the 100% Pure Mermaid Palette, which is just gorgeous! The Coral blush and Siren luminescent powder are perfect for a warm, glowy look. I blended the Coral blush onto the apples of my cheeks, and then brushed the Siren luminescent powder on the tops of my cheekbones, blending into the blush. I also applied Siren along the top of my forehead near the hairline, on my chin and the tip of my nose for an all-over warmth. Siren can also be used by itself as a blush for pale skin, and as a highlight for darker skin.
For my eyes, I applied the Siren luminescent powder almost all the way up to my brows (leaving a little white space to highlight). Then I blended Sea Glass (a shimmery forest green) from my crease down to my lash line. I added Starfish (a dark taupe) into the crease and patted Shell (a beautiful shimmery yellow green) on to the outer edges with my fingertip to get maximum pigmentation. I brushed a shadow of Starfish and Shell to the lower lashline to give some depth and to make my eyes look bigger. Since this is a natural, beachy makeup look, there’s no need to add eyeliner unless you want to! You can also add mascara, but I have lash extensions, so I don’t regularly use mascara.
I kept the brows natural looking by using the new 100% Pure Green Tea Fiber Brow Builder (in shade medium brown). I found that the shade was slightly darker than I expected, but it still worked with my skintone and hair color. The small brush is easy to use, and it adds fibers to fill in sparse areas. When used alone, it gives you that natural boy brow look. When used with the Fruit Pigmented Powder Gel you can add volume AND get a more defined look. The Green Tea Fiber Brow Builder added color and volume, but did not seem to tame my brows and hold them in place. For this beachy look, I didn’t need it, but normally I would use a clear brow gel on top.
To highlight the tops of my cheeks, the tip of my nose and my cupid’s bow, I used the 100% Pure Luminating Creme in Northern Light. It’s a super shimmery liquid highlighter with a pink cast. It’s made with real food-grade ingredients, and filled with antioxidants. I applied with the applicator brush and then blended out by tapping with my fingers.
I finished the look with the Lip Crayon in Honey Kiss by Honest Beauty. It’s a beautiful shimmery, peachy pink shade that is easy to apply and easy to wear. It’s definitely not long-wearing or drying. It’s the perfect lip color for an easy spring or summer makeup look.
This might be a long post, but seriously – this is a very easy makeup look that you can do in about 5-10 minutes!

Very nice! 🙂 I always wanted to try the mermaid palette but I was afraid of its colors. It looks very nice on you so I think I’ll give a try in summer. 😀 Thanks for the swatches. What do you think, I’ve got light blue eyes do you think it will look good on me?
Oh, the brow builder… I was always looking for a brow builder that is natural and nontoxic, so I’m very happy that 100% Pure has made such an amazing and organic formula. Great post!
You also look pretty.

Thank you so much Eszter! I think the palette will work on most skintones. I love it because I have pale skin with warm undertones (and green eyes). And my fellow blogger, Phyrra, loves it too (she has pale skin with neutral/cooler undertones and blue eyes).

The colours in that palette totally remind me of Hawaii! I’m going to need that brow builder and the Milk primer too. 100% makes my holy grail eye cream but I’ve never tried their makeup. I’ll have to check it out!
