I’m at that age where the majority of my Facebook feed is full of wedding pictures and new baby pictures. I’m engaged, but haven’t tied the knot yet, but of course having a baby is always on my mind. When will I have one? What the heck do I do when a baby gets here? So many questions. I had always assumed I’d have a baby by the time I was 30. Now I’m 35. You’d think I’d have learned a thing or two by now, but sadly, my little nephew lives in another state, so I didn’t witness all of the things my sister went through with him. I do know that he or she will definitely need one of those cute bunny ear hats! But, that’s about as far as I have gone to plan out my future baby’s life! I have to wonder – what are the things I would need to shield my little one from without being an overprotective helicopter mom?
My fellow blogger, Rachel (AKA Mommy Greenest), has a new natural baby eBook that answers many of my “natural baby” questions. Okay maybe she can’t tell me WHEN to have a baby, because I’m pretty sure “psychic abilities” is not listed on her LinkedIn page, but she does answer the questions about how to keep my future baby safe!
Rachel shares all the things she’s learned while being a green mommy – things like avoiding pesticides, eating organic foods, what types of plastic baby bottles to use, flame retardants, VOCs, how to keep the house clean for little crawlers, what types of baby furniture to avoid, and things I have never even thought of!
Why did she write this book? Rachel says, “Until a few months ago, when a friend called in a panic to ask about VOCs — her infant nephew had just been admitted to the hospital and was having trouble breathing, and his parents were looking to reduce the toxic chemicals in his environment. After sharing information through email, text and phone calls, I realized: This would be so much easier if I could just send them my book.”
Of course, you know I would recommend using non-toxic, natural and cruelty free baby products (body washes, shampoo, toothpaste, etc., but what about furniture? One company Rachel highly recommends is Naturepedic mattresses. She says, “I’ve written extensively about Naturepedic in the past, sharing information about their refusal to include toxic chemicals like flame retardants in their mattresses and bedding, as well as specific products that I love: the Organic Trio Pillow, the Organic Mattress Protector Pads and the lower-priced line of flame retardant free Lullaby Earth Crib Mattresses.
I need a new mattress for my future baby and for my current fiance and me! Our current mattress is old and we think it has mold in it (OMG!) because the movers left it in a truck with holes in it, so it got wet. Ugh! Plus, it wasn’t a natural mattress to begin with. Every day I wake up with allergy symptoms that go away when I leave the bed! Something’s up! I need to get a Naturepedic as soon as possible!

We use the Honest Company for all our baby products. They make everything from non-VOC bottles, organic diapers and wipes, shampoo, etc… Really happy with them.

Hi all.
Hope you are having a great time!
I can understand what you will be going through right now. I can say that you should not doubt your physical capabilities. Birth is a beautiful experience , one should not be worried about it .
I was also not able to conceive, then a friend of mine told me about midwives. These midwives give you natural remedies like exercise, right type of food at right time and some other natural type of cure.
I was lucky enough to meet one such midwife who guided me well about this . I can say that having a baby at your age is not too difficult . These days there are so many advancements that at your age a lady can have twins or triplets too at the same time . So dont worry too much because stress also is one of the factors.
You should visit your nearest midwife soon and seek her advice on how you can have a baby. She can help you later also during your delivery. My midwife turned my delivery into one of the most beautiful experiences of my life.
Wish you all the luck for same. Hope to hear good news from your side very soon and thanks in advance dear.

Thanks for your great article, I can’t wait to read your ebook. I also want to have a baby like you, but I don’t find a good partner yet. Maybe I have to wait for a while. Anyway I believe this book can help me to some ideas or experience about it.

Thanks for the info; I didn’t even realize how much chemicals there are floating around my house, usually I just try to buy all BPA-free stuff if possible.

Hello, Jen. Thanks for the information. I am pregnant in the 2nd and I need such information. In fact I am pretty stressed about all of this so your blog as a whole makes me feel a bit more relieved. I will absolutely take the book that you recommend.

Being a first time mum is both exciting and challenging. Having information that makes one more informed is a prerequisite for that exciting and challenging journey. However, more often than not, first time mums learn more “on the job” i.e. once the baby arrives.

It’s great to know people are sharing their experience and knowledge to help others get through the difficult phase of early parenting. I have two daughters, the first is 3 and my second was just born last month, and raising my daughters the best and healthiest way is always my priority. I usually get information by joining online parenting groups and forum or discussion boards. Some even have doctors in them so it helps a lot especially for new parents. Good luck for the E-book and I wish the best for you and your fiance as well
