Avishi Organics Review and Giveaway
I have never been a mom (other than a dog and cat mom!), but I know how hard it can be to find skincare products that are safe for expectant or nursing mothers and their babies.
I had always heard that you absorb things through your skin. But that never really hit home with me until I tried using topical progesterone cream (a couple of years ago). Even the TINIEST little dab made me feel horrible. That was a failed experiment, but it taught me just how much product we actually absorb through our skin. If you’ve ever used a birth control patch or a nicotine patch, you know that ingesting or injecting things is not the only way to get things into your body!
Because we absorb so much through our skin, doctors recommend that pregnant and nursing women avoid certain skincare ingredients. In addition to the big ones, you may also want to choose organic ingredients (and foods of course), and avoid things like parabens, phthalates, SLS and other potential endocrine disruptors.
I recently sampled some products from Avishi Organics, and I was impressed with their formulas. The brand is targeted toward moms-to-be, moms and babies, but you don’t have to be a mom or baby to use them. You don’t have to be female either!
Avishi Organics products are cruelty-free, vegan, and certified organic by Oregon Tilth and the USDA. Their products are based on Ayurvedic principles of holistic wellness. The ingredient decks are impressive – lots of natural ingredients and no filler.
Avishi Organics Supercharged Body Lotion
Avishi’s Supercharged Body Lotion is a true lotion and not a cream. What I mean by that is I can use one pump to quickly coat both arms (or maybe an entire leg). The number of Ayurvedic-based ingredients in this lotion is impressive (more than 20)! It looks more like a high-end facial moisturizer than a body lotion. When I put it on, I feel like I’m giving my skin a special, healing treat.
Avishi Organics Stretch Mark Oil
If you’re more into oils than lotions, or if you want something to encourage skin elasticity and prevent pregnancy stretch marks, try the Intensive Stretch Mark Oil. This is a blend of organic oils such as tamanu, sea buckthorn, rosehip, olive, borage seed, gotu kola, macadamia nut, helichrysum, as well as aloe vera and non-GMO Vitamin E. It’s got an herbal, spa-like scent.
Ayurvedic Recovery Body Oil
The Ayurvedic Recovery Body Oil has a slightly different blend of oils, including amla, sacha inchi, pumpkin seed, licorice, calendula, grapeseed, ashwagandha, shatavari, ginger, manjistha, bergamot, and grapefruit. This is a great massage oil. You can give your muscles a good rubdown and give your skin a nourishing treat at the same time. This one has a spicier scent.
Sanskriti Wellness Wash
The Sanskriti Wellness Wash is my favorite. It has a blend of oils and Ayurvedic botanical extracts mixed into a castile and soapnuts base. When you apply it to your skin, it doesn’t feel oily, and it rinses clean. But after you’re done rinsing, you’ll notice that your skin feels hydrated – almost as if you’ve just put on lotion. My hands and body are constantly dry, so I really like this one.
Little Avishi Deeply Nourishing Baby Oil
The Little Avishi Deeply Nourishing Baby Oil is designed to nourish a growing baby while calming their nervous system with organic ingredients like ashwagandha, amla, holy basil, plantain, yarrow, sesame seed, neem, and lavender.
Deeply Nourishing Castile Baby Wash
The Little Avishi Deeply Nourishing Castile Baby Wash is similar in feel to the Wellness Wash, but has a different blend of herbs, and a slightly different scent. I don’t know if I can describe either of them, other than to say they are “herbal” but they are also quite mild. The Baby Wash smells slightly more citrus-y to me.
