I celebrated my birthday last week via a series of various events—including a rock concert, drinks with family and friends, nails and happy hour with Mom, and a nice dinner and more drinks—so after seven(ish) days of overindulgence, including having cake every night for dessert, despite the fun my brain and body were ready for a bit of a detox. I thus thought this was the perfect opportunity to try out the Pacifica Jet Set Hair Trio combo—a three-pack of Super Kale Juiced-Up Shampoo, Super Kale Juiced-Up Conditioner, and Hairvana Leave-On Detangling Conditioner “with stress & pollution protection and detoxifying extracts.” Sweet relief was ahead!
Pacifica is a brand that I’ve loved for years because of their absolutely gorgeous packaging—they use bright, vibrant colors, often with complements of gold—as well as their phenomenal scents. I am super fond of their candles and fragrances but had not yet tried any hair care products, so that made this detox adventure even more exciting. Added bonuses are that the products in this trio are made in the USA, they’re 100% vegan and cruelty-free, and the small size of each tube included makes them carry-on air travel compliant.
I tried the set two different ways: on a relaxing Sunday when I could let my hair leisurely air dry and then on Monday when I had to hustle and dry and style my hair for work. The Super Kale Shampoo started me off with a fresh and clean scent—more on the herbal side and less on the heady fragrant or floral side—and it still produced decent suds (which is something that not all cruelty-free or natural shampoos offer, but which I enjoyed). It definitely seemed to be working harder than my usual daily shampoo, and I felt as if it was removing built-up product and/or whatever goodies driving around in Los Angeles with my windows down causes to end up in my hair, but it wasn’t so harsh as to make strands feel stripped down. Hooray!
The Super Kale Conditioner was a great follow-up to offer much needed moisture after the purifying shampooing, but it was still quite light and rinsed out well—I agree with the “weightless hydration” description as advertised. The shampoo and conditioner both note that that they are acceptable for all hair types—but particularly suited for fine, oily, or color-treated—and I found that to indeed be true. I used probably a 1.5 to 1 ratio of conditioner to shampoo since I have dyed blonde fine hair that’s had the dye assistance for many years running now.
I don’t often use leave-in conditioners, as in past experience they have sometimes left my fine hair looking greasy, but I wanted to fully try the complete set—plus as soon as I opened the Hairvana Leave-On Detangling Conditioner, I literally (no joke) out loud said, “Oh, my god, this smells SO good!” I cannot get enough of the coconut scent. In all seriousness, however, I was very pleased with the Hairvana as very little was needed to coat my full head of hair and to give it a bit of an extra moisture boost after the detoxifying conditioner.
After allowing my hair to air-dry on Sunday, I felt the smoothness that the nourishing ingredients (including coconut oil) offered without feeling like my hair was separating into sections and clumping too much—which I’ve had happen when using too much or too heavy of a product on my fine hair—and I didn’t notice major weight differences in how my hair fell and moved when it was completely dry or when I swirled it back into a bun. On Monday, my hair blow-dried and was able to be styled as usual as well. I would also say I felt the benefit of the “flexibility” advertised on the packaging when running my fingers through it during the day, but it blessedly was not greasier or weighed-down circa 7:00 PM at the end of a full day of work. Removing a bit of past buildup also seemed to make it a bit “fluffier” to quote my husband, ha.
Overall, I would definitely say this is a gorgeous and useful gift pack or personal treat. I will still use all three products together when just air-drying in the future too as I think the Leave-On Conditioner adds a needed, extra bonus in helping to seal in the benefits that the Juiced-Up Shampoo and Conditioner provide. Even if I am not making it to the gym quite as often as I should, or if I still partake in a happy hour or three each week, this is a great set of tools to add to my kit that can hopefully balance out a bit of the less than best behavior!
