So now that I am a dog owner, I realize just how lazy I am and how much I hate getting up early to walk the dog. Well, not only do I dislike it, my pup, Riley, HATES going outside. We’re working on his fearfulness (Shy Puppy Class at the local Zoom Room and socializing with neighbor dogs). He’s getting better by leaps and bounds.
So, I was thrilled with Tobi, the founder of Pet Loo, sent me one to review!
The Pet Loo is your backyard in a box! What was originally created out of pure necessity is now the ultimate solution for pet owners – no matter your circumstance or dwelling!
What is the Pet Loo?
It’s a urine drainage system and is effective for pets, young and old. Made with synthetic grass, it’s a long lasting product for indoor potty times!
Pet Loo also carries a line of pet cleaning products that contain natural enzymes to combat and break down pet stains and odors. These enzymes work to dissolve the organic matter from pet accidents and food and beverages quickly and easily. The biodegradable formula will not harm or discolor carpets, fabrics and upholstery, or irritate sensitive skin, eyes or noses.
Pros
- I don’t have to get up early to take Riley outside! (This should count as two pros!)
- Imagine how awesome this will be for those that get snow every winter! Or those who live in high rises.
- Riley knows exactly where his potty is, so he doesn’t have anxiety about potty time.
- Riley is 15 lbs, but any size dog can use the Pet Loo
- It saves money in the long run if you’re planning on buying pee pads
- Easy to set up – just put the fake grass on top of the base, make sure the reservoir is in place, and you’re done!
Cons
- I have a very strong sense of smell, and I can almost always get a whiff. People that come over say they can’t smell it.
- My dog, Riley, doesn’t want to touch the grass, so I’ve been using the pee pads on top. (It’s still catching a lot of the leakage so I don’t have to mop every day.)
- It’s a pain in the you-know-what to really clean it. You can spray the Wee Care enzyme cleaner on top and pour water on it, but I find it really needs to be taken outside and hosed down once a week (or once every other week). I bought a hose just for this purpose. I live in the city with no yard – didn’t have much use for a hose otherwise! I haven’t tried a watering can yet – that might work a lot better and would be easier than hosing it down.
So, how do you get your dog to use it? Particularly if he’s used to going outside? Well – there’s a Pet Loo product called Skip to My Loo (cute name) that you can put on the Loo to attract your dog. If you’re using pee pads, you can cut them in half for a while, then quarters, and then eventually take them away. I tried this with Riley, and it kind of worked, but he had a few accidents on the couch, so I gave up and started using the full-sized pads again (on top of the Loo). I’m going to keep trying though – he’s getting older and I think it will work better now!

I don’t think I have ever entered a pet contest before because mine are so stinkin spoiled! I want to win a Pet Loo because my newest dog was a stray for a really long time. Just when you think he’s forgotten, he decides to sneak away & pee on my couch. DO NOT LIKE.

Haaaaahaha! I need this so bad. I have one pug that is really good. But our pug that was a rescue, Bruno, is still having trouble. He often goes in the kitchen when I am not looking. I think this would be a good solution. Better than the floor!

we live in a condo with a no pets ban (STUPID) but we have a 4# chihuahua. I have to load her in a bag, take her in the car, drive down to a local park, and let her potty. This would be AWESOME to have, as I do have a small patio I could put it on. Would save my sanity!!!! dropastitch@yahoo dot com

It's nice to have a backup plan in the event that you can't take the dog out in time. Especially a puppy.

I have a suggestion. Try putting the enzyme in the bottom of the drainage pan, diluted with some water, and clean-up will be easier:-)

My Golden Retriever Kobie just turned 13. He has arthritis, but still loves to play and of course, eat. But I work all day and sometimes he can't hold it. I have put down piddle pads, etc and he will go on those. But he pees a river and sometimes (ok, A LOT of times), they leak. I don't mind cleaning up after him, but it sure would be great to get a break from the cleaning. That would leave us more time to play with his stuffed squeaky squirrel…. 🙂

I would LOVE to have one of these. I live in an apt in Minnesota and it can be a pain in the butt in the dead of winter to wake up super early and let my dog out. He is super picky on where he goes to the bathroom at. Sometimes we spend a half hour circling around trying to find "the spot"

I would love to win one of these because I'm disabled and "home alone" for most of the day. If I'm having a particularly bad day, this would be a great help for our dog just in case.

i really want one of these. my 3 little girls have browned my yard. the 2 younger girls, almost 2 and 3 still have not fully gotten the potty outside completely yet. i have to keep an eye on them constantly….they know better, but sometimes a little devil makes them do it…and hide it….the oldest will hold it forever….

I would love to win one of these magic instruments because I have a little chihuahua I found running out in traffic on a busy street (she was covered in fleas and trying to eat bugs on the ground:(. I know shelters are filled with chihuahuas (and pit bulls) so I had to just keep this little girl. I already have two Boston Terriers so she has an instant brother and sister. She's quite timid at potty times and even though I take her out several times a day, she still manages to produce a mystery poop or pee in a corner, under a table, or worse, on the sofa or bed when no one is looking 🙁 This would be a life saver and help my little Miss Peanut with her potty issues! Thanks for the chance.

I'd like a Pet Loo because I'm living in a city and it becomes difficult to take them outside in the mornings before work when the elevator isn't working, or our dogs decide they don't feel like peeing outside today. :O Ah! If it is raining it's like taking Maeby, our mini Dachshund, to a room she knows is full of torturous devices. She hates water! While Joey is trying to find mud to roll around in it. I would really like one of these because it could only make life easier.

So I’m curious if you were eventually able to get your pup to use it regularly and not need the pee pads anymore? I’m really interested in one of these, but I’m concerned she won’t use it and that it might get stinky.

Hi Danielle – yes! Riley only uses the Pet Loo now – he is an inside dog most of the time!
