The effects of aging on our skin – dullness, wrinkles, age spots – are something we all have to deal with sooner or later. But you don’t have to spring for expensive, quality-questionable procedures or wait until it’s too late. Here are three tips on how to keep your skin looking soft, supple and young.
First, make sure the skincare routines that you are using for your morning and night routine are simple and effective. You don’t need a 12-step program full of different creams and toners. For the morning, try using a non-soap cleanser, gentle exfoliant and a UVA/UVB protector. A nighttime routine should be even simpler: a cleanser and a correction cream with retinoid to help wrinkles.
For anti aging skincare, look for products that have specific ingredients. To combat wrinkles around the mouth, look for products that contain hyaluronic acid, which plumps up fine lines, or madecassoside, which repairs cell damage. To fight fine lines on hands, choose something with alpha hydroxy acid, which sloughs off dead skin and quickens cell turnover.
And of course, you can’t forget the positive effects that come from a healthy diet and exercise. Stay hydrated with at least eight ounces of water a day, and make sure to eat foods that contain anti-oxidants (such as blueberries and whole grains) and are anti-inflammatory. And don’t forget about low glycemic foods such as salads, bright red and green vegetables.

Diet and exercise are so important. No matter what you put on your skin, you need to think about what you feed it from the inside, as well.
