As you guys know, I’m always thrilled to find cruelty free brands at reasonable prices. Color cosmetics are fairly easy to find at drugstores and mass market stores, but what about hair care? Not as easy. But, there’s one brand that I have loved for a long time. I recently spotted their products at my local Walmart store – SheaMoisture!
SheaMoisture is cruelty free, eco-friendly and women-friendly. SheaMoisture’s Shea Butter is purchased from women-run cooperatives in Northern Ghana at a fair wage. The products are made with natural ingredients including certified organic shea butter, which is ideal for dry, damaged, frizzy or thick hair.
I love the packaging – it really catches your eye as you walk through the hair section of the store. The best part is the price! The price points are extremely good considering the quality of the ingredients, and are a steal compared to similar brands.
I bought two products from the Coconut & Hibiscus line: the Curl & Shine Shampoo and the Curl Enhancing Smoothie. From the Raw Shea Butter line, I bought the Restorative Conditioner and Deep Treatment Masque. I’m not the kind of person that has to match their shampoo and conditioner (or styling products). I think it’s better to mix and match so you get the perfect “hair cocktail” that works for you.
The Coconut & Hibiscus line is made for girls with curls! The products are made with certified organic coconut oil and shea butter. They also include a blend of ingredients for thirsty hair: aloe vera, Vitamin E, neem seed oil, Vitamin B5, silk protein, hibiscus and honeysuckle extract. The Curl Enhancing Smoothie provides an extra deep conditioning treatment with mango seed butter, avocado oil and carrot seed oil. The products are deeply moisturizing but did not weigh my hair down or make it oily in any way.
The Raw Shea Butter line was designed to heal, grow and strengthen damaged, dry or over-processed hair. The organic shea butter gives you deep hair and scalp moisture, argan oil brings on the shine and promotes hair elasticity, and sea kelp is full of minerals that help seal the cuticle to prevent split ends and frizz. You can use the Deep Treatment Masque as a five minute hair mask in the shower, or you can cover with a plastic cap and apply heat for up to 30 minutes for an intensive treatment. This was a great treat for my hair after I highlighted it (my hair does not like bleach!).
Both lines smell AMAZING! I especially love the Coconut & Hibiscus scent – so good! These are all great choices for the summer. The products are also great to restore your hair after a trip to the beach, pool or spa. I like to head damage off at the pass by applying these moisturizing hair treatments to wet hair BEFORE I go swimming or sunbathing. I simply wet my hair, apply the deep conditioner, and then put it up in a bun or braids – voila – ready to rock!
I also want to try their African Black Soap and Fruit Fusion Coconut Water lines. The products sound perfect for my hair. These are all going on my wish list.
The prices at Walmart are pretty sweet, so it’s easy for me to check out several lines to find the ones that work best for my hair. Want to save even more? You can join Ibotta to earn cash rebates on SheaMoisture products when you shop at Walmart.
Have you tried SheaMoisture hair products? What did you think? I would love to hear from you in the comments below!
