SheaMoisture Baby Care
Giving my baby a bath is one of those wonderful bonding moments that we get to share. One thing I do love is getting to treat her to amazing, healthy products for her hair and skin to keep them baby soft. Mama enjoys using nice products herself and I’m pretty sure I’ll be molding my daughter to be the same. SheaMoisture is one of those brands I’ve come to rely on that has products to use from head to toe, and keep both baby and mommy happy. They’re sulfate free, paraben free, cruelty free and formulated with a blend of natural ingredients to nourish the skin. I recently got a hold of the SheaMoisture Raw Shea, Chamomile and Argan Oil line and found it to be a perfect match for my baby Zoe.
The SheaMoisture Raw Shea, Chamomile and Argan Oil line helps moisturize and soothe the delicate (and sometimes irritated) skin of my baby Zoe. Irritation can include eczema, diaper rash, or the occasional dry, itchy patch that happens from time to time. Shea butter deeply hydrates the skin and is something that I love to use on myself as well. Chamomile works as an anti-inflammatory and has a calming effect, while Argan oil nourishes the skin with its Vitamin E, a potent antioxidant found in many skincare formulations. The entire line utilizes the benefits of frankincense and myrrh which induce peace, relaxation, while have antiseptic and anti-inflammatory properties to boot.
My baby takes swimming classes and that can take a toll on her beautiful baby skin. Chlorine pumped water can be extremely drying so we immediately give her a bath as soon as we get home. When I fill her bath I add a teaspoon of the Baby Rub Oil so that her skin is kept extra moisturized. It can be used after bath as well, but I find the blend of sunflower, jojoba and sweet almond oil works great added to the water to leave a very light film on the skin. I also use the Head-to-Toe Wash & Shampoo and make sure to get between all her plump little rolls and wash her very fine, delicate hair. It suds well and smells nice and not overly perfumed with anything synthetic. I don’t usually use solid soap but the Eczema Bar Soap works great with a baby washcloth when it’s time to give her tush a scrub down. It does not exacerbate her occasional diaper rash and in fact helps soothe it when her bum is a bit red. I like having the option of using both and keep the bar soap in a dish near the kitchen sink where I bathe her.
After we’re finished with her bath, and dry her off, I make sure to moisturize her skin a bit more from head to toe. My baby has delicious rolls that need extra care so they don’t get red and irritated. Places like her neck, behind her knees and her tush need extra protection because hidden pockets of moisture can make the skin raw very quickly. I make sure to apply the head-to-toe ointment in all those spots after having some of it melt a bit in my fingers. A little goes a long way and it does a great job of healing up any redness that happens with chunky babies. For her face and rest of her body I like to use the healing lotion which comes in a generous pump bottle. I was happy to see that the lotion came out easily and wasn’t too thick for applying on my baby’s skin. It sinks in quickly, and mommy enjoys putting some on her arms after baby has been covered. Lastly, I use the Eczema therapy butter on her feet and hands that I massage for a bit, and on any spots I know that have a tendency to get dry.
Each product I use on my baby I would wholeheartedly use on myself. In fact, half of the products I do end up using on myself also. My baby’s hair and skin looks and feels as soft as you’d expect it to be, and she smells great. I love the SheaMoisture line and what it does for my beautiful baby’s skin. I also love the fact that the products are healthy and not laden with chemicals that can easily cause or worsen current skin problems.
