Summer is here and it has brought lots of fun and feminine makeup trends for 2012. We are seeing many different colors such as coral, metallics, pastels and orange. These colors have already made their appearance on runways and among Hollywood’s elite – like me (kidding!).
Mineral Cosmetics
Mineral cosmetics are the perfect choice this summer. One of the best benefits of mineral makeup is that it helps protect skin from the elements without making you break out. Youngblood mineral cosmetics are my fave because they have AMAZING coverage and they don’t contain any irritating dyes or perfumes.
Say Hello to Pink Cheeks
Summer makeup trends in the past often included bronze or tinted cheeks; however, this summer we are seeing more soft pink hues. Women who have dark skin, can choose a bit of a darker hue, but it is best to stick with a soft color in the pink family.
The best way to add this color to your cheeks it to start with a tinted moisturizer before applying the blush. In this way, your face will have that attractive glow, and the blush will stay on longer. You can try a cream blush for a dewy look if you have normal to dry skin. Youngblood has a bubble gum pink blush called Taffeta. I have combo/oily skin, so I prefer a pressed mineral blush. I like Youngblood’s “Bashful” (matte nude pink) or you could try “Blossom” for a brighter pink.
Pastel Eyeshadow
Pastel eyeshadows are quite popular this summer, mainly such colors as baby blue, soft pink and light purple. Many women choose to add a little shimmer to their eyelids as well, and it looks terrific and stays on much longer when a primer is applied first. When combined with just a touch of eyeliner, the result is simply fantastic. Try the Too Faced Romantic Eye Classic Beauty Shadow Collection ($36)
Have Fun with Metallics
For a fun and adventurous look, add metallic colors to your eyes. There are many wonderful colors for 2012 including green, silver, blue, gold and purple. However, when you add these colors to your eyes, keep in mind that you will be placing focus on your eyes. Thus, you will want to use softer colors for the rest of your face including your cheeks and lips. Try Milani metallic eye shadows ($6.99 each).
Bold and Beautiful Lips
Coral is a gorgeous coral for lips this summer, and it works great when paired with dark eye makeup. Coral comes in a variety of tones, so there is sure to be one that matches your skin color. For those people who want to go for darker lips, matte orange is a terrific choice. This color looks great on lips when combined with light-colored eye makeup. Pink Sith has a great review of the Sephora Pantone orange collection.
