My Super Curly Do!

in Hair on 06/27/11

My friend Shai, owner of Capella Salon – the best salon in LA for curly hair, wanted to try his hand at making my wavy hair curly. I decided to take him up on his offer so I could look fabulous for IMATS LA and the Laser Away beauty blogger event yesterday. Well, I have to say – this man is a magician! I have never had my hair this curly!

After styling!

Shai used cruelty free Deva Curl products on me, which are a must-try for curly girls (and guys) who want healthy hair with no frizz.

Here are some of Shai’s tips for curly hair:

  • Use shampoos and conditioners without sulfates (like Deva Curl).
  • After shampooing and conditioning, add moisturizing and gel products to sopping wet hair and scrunch gently upside down (do it in the shower, so you don’t get water all over the place).
  • Use a microfiber towel (terry cloth is too harsh) to gently squeeze excess water from your hair after applying product.
  • Use a diffuser to blow dry. Don’t do any more scrunching – leave the curls alone. Just move the diffuser up and down toward your scalp while hanging your head upside down.

If you want a curly do from Shai, make sure to ask for the “Deva Set” and tell him Jen from MyBeautyBunny.com sent you! 🙂

I just tweeted yesterday asking if anyone had used Deva Curl because I tried it for the first time. I'm happy to see the results you got from it.

Loves it! I have the same wavy hair, I have never gotten it to be this soft looking after diffusing, mine always looks still wet.

LOVE the look! I have curly hair that if done right gives me spiral curls in the front. If only it would translate to the back of my hair. I'm gonna have to try the method you described above! Thanks!
