New Makeup Colors For Summer
Remember that scene in The Wizard of Oz when the Wicked Witch casts a spell of sleep and enchantment over Dorothy and friends right outside the Emerald City? Do you remember what she uses? POPPIES, of course!! The Body Shop‘s new “Smoky Poppy” makeup line will do anything but put you to sleep, but I’ll bet my broomstick that you’ll be as enchanted as I was by the new line’s colors, textures, and ease of use.
As always, all Body Shop products are 100% vegetarian. All of the products reviewed in this set (including the brush) are also vegan, with the exception of the Lip & Cheek Velvet Stick, which contains beeswax.
Shimmer cubes: Each palette contains 4 different shimmer cubes. As you see in the photo, one palette is more dramatic with black/white/blue/yellow, while the other is softer with grey/pink/green/gold. One of the great things about these shimmer cubes is that they go on so delicately. It’s hard to go wrong when the colors brush on so smoothly and are can be easily built up. It’s fun (and safe) to experiment with bold colors like these when the medium they come in is so user-friendly. While these cubes seem mostly intended for eyes, the squares ARE removable, which means you could easily swipe the awesome poppy brush with a little champagne shimmer to dust across your décolletage. I took that plunge and it was beautiful.
Lip & Cheek Velvet Stain: I’m a huge sucker for multi-purpose makeup. Anyone who has ever had to fit her life into the regulations of an airline-sized suitcase knows what I mean! These sticks are light and portable, and their dual duty means one less thing to pack. The Body Shop has also managed to run the color gamut here in just 6 shades. From sweet petal pink to bold classic red, there is something here for everyone. The “black” shade is really more of a purple-gray (see photo) and would be perfect for Halloween or reenacting your favorite Twilight scenes (don’t judge.) These sticks are incredibly creamy, and blend easily into your cheeks. Apply directly to your face and blend with a sponge or even just your fingers. The color was pretty long-lasting on my lips too without need to reapply, even through snacking and sipping.
Nail polish: These are labeled “colour crush” and with good reason. These shades are rich, saturated, and completely unapologetic – everything a summer nail color should be. You can go monochrome with just one hue, or dare to be different by wearing them all together. I was really impressed by how quickly they dried up and started to harden – no need to waste time sitting around!
Brush: This synthetic brush is great for all purpose blending and powdering. The cheek colors in this set are solids, but I know I’ll find plenty of other uses for this high-quality tool.
All in all a solid collection from The Body Shop. Make sure you get your hands on these hot hues before summer is here!
