Hi bunnies! It has been awhile since I’ve had the chance to write a post for you guys! First it was the holidays (you know how that goes – visiting family out of town and eating too many cookies…), and then I changed to a new web host which took WAY too long, but now I’m back. Did ya miss me?
Today I want to talk about a cruelty free brand called Lexli. I’ve written about this brand before but it’s been a hot minute, so let me refresh your memory. Lexli is a Leaping Bunny certified cruelty free skincare brand that uses pharmaceutical grade aloe vera as its star ingredient.
Aloe is one of my favorite skincare ingredients because it has natural healing properties and it’s great for pretty much any skin type – dry, combination, oily, acne-prone, mature – anyone can benefit from this “pharmacy in a plant.” I have combination, cystic, hormonal adult acne prone skin, and I’ve never had a breakout triggered by aloe. In fact, it’s been great for healing acne and moisturizing without clogging my already overloaded pores. In addition to healing, aloe actually has antibacterial and anti-inflammatory properties!
You’ll see that pharmaceutical grade aloe is at the top of the ingredient lists for Lexli products. They use aloe as a base instead of water, which makes for a better product. Lexli uses only organic aloe that has been certified by the International Aloe Science Council (IASC) to be sure the aloe they source has been properly harvested for maximum efficacy.
Lexli sent me their 30 day starter kit to test out. It comes with Cleansing Lotion, Tone and Balance, AloeGlyC, Day Moisturizer with SPF 15, and Night Moisturizer. All of the products are cruelty free (no animal testing, no ingredients tested on animals by suppliers, and not sold in countries that require animal testing). All of the products are paraben free and use organic aloe vera as the main ingredient. Some of the products are vegan, and some contain collagen or silk (see notes on each below).
The Cleansing Lotion is, of course, cruelty-free, but also paraben-free, vegan and pH balanced. Aloe vera is the first ingredient (before water), and the ingredient deck is short. It’s perfect for sensitive skin or those with rosacea. This formula is meant for normal, combo or dry skin types. If you have acne or very oily skin, you may want to try the Acne Cleanser (which I reviewed here).
Lexli’s Tone and Balance can be used after cleansing to remove any remaining bits of makeup and oil or you can use it as a hydrating, setting, pH balancing and healing refresher during the day (even if you’re wearing makeup). You can use this as an aftershave or when your skin is feeling sensitive from a sunburn or laser treatment. It’s a great option for those with sensitive skin, psoriasis, eczema or rosacea. The toner has silk and collagen ingredients, so it’s not suitable for vegans.
Lexli Day Moisturizer with SPF 15 is perfect for normal to dry skin types. As with all of the Lexli products, aloe is the first ingredient, and it’s made with soluble collagen (not suitable for vegans), jojoba seed oil, Vitamin A, Vitamin D3, and Vitamin E. The cream is very hydrating but not heavy or greasy. It gives some sun protection, but if you’re going out into the world, I recommend adding their Sunscreen Spray.
Lexli’s AloeGlyC is a potent exfoliator with glycolic acid, Vitamin C, salicylic acid, Vitamin A, Vitamin E and green tea extract. It’s very active, and unfortunately not one I can use because I’m very sensitive to Vitamin C. I tried it as a mask (left it on for about a minute and then washed it off), and I did see some skin smoothing benefits. I would recommend starting by either mixing this with your moisturizer or using it as a mask. As your skin adapts, you can use it full-strength as a leave-on exfoliant. You guys already know glycolic acid is one of my favorite anti-aging, skin brightening ingredients, and Vitamin C would be in the same category for me if my skin tolerated it better. This product contains lactose, so it’s suitable for vegetarians but not suitable for vegans. Make sure to use sunscreen during the day when you use a powerful exfoliant like this one.
And last but not least is the Night Moisturizer. In addition to the organic aloe, it’s made with sodium PCA, safflower oil (a non pore clogging oil), jojoba seed oil and soluble collagen (so not appropriate for vegans). This is a very hydrating cream that is perfect for normal, dry, mature, or sensitive skin types. It’s also great for dry, winter skin (which I know a lot of you have been dealing with lately).
If you’re not sure which Lexli products are right for you, or not sure of your skin type, take their online quiz. And if you try the products, please let me know what you think!
