I thought it would be fun to do a totally random, non-review, non-sponsored type of blog post and let you guys know what I’m up to (and what I’m loving – or NOT loving) right now! This post is based on the “Taking Stock” templates that bloggers like to post! You can grab these words and post your own. If you do – let me know in the comments so I can go read it!
Wishing: Seriously wishing my hair stylist, Patricia Lynn Laas, could style my hair every day (like in the pic above). I had her use a non-toxic, cruelty free and vegan hair dye called Ekoeh on me and I LOVE it. I finally can get my hair done without getting a headache from the fumes!
Cooking: After eating all kinds of garbage the last couple months, I’m back to making lots of paleo Instant Pot dishes to regulate my auto-immune and food allergy issues.
Drinking: Lots of unsweetened black iced tea, electrolytes, and stevia cola (Zevia) – trying to be better about avoiding Coke Zero, because I know it’s terrible, but it does sneak in as a treat every now and then (like when I’m at the movie theater) – not gonna lie.
Reading: Just finished Ubik by Philip K. Dick, and I’m working on The Outsider by Stephen King and 1Q84 by Haruki Murakami.
Wanting: More vacation time! I just got back from an amazing, but too short trip to Pensacola Beach, FL with my extended family. We stayed at a couple of places, including a private condo and Holiday Inn Pensacola Beach.
Looking: Looking forward to Halloween! For my 1 year wedding anniversary, Gregg and I were going to take a trip, but instead decided to go to all of the big Halloween events in LA – Universal Halloween Horror Nights, Knotts Scary Farm and Queen Mary’s Dark Harbor. Maybe we’ll hit up the Haunted Hayride too. I LOVE this stuff, and I’m so happy it’s contagious and now Gregg absolutely loves it too! It’s become our yearly October thing, but last year we didn’t get to go, because you know – we were getting married in Scotland!
Loving: My husband and fur babies bring me joy every single day – seriously – even on the bad days.
Watching: Any drama, horror or sci fi with good production value (there are a lot of stinkers out there). We just finished Carnival Row, the latest season of 13 Reasons Why, Stranger Things, The Boys, Dark, and those were all very cool. We also watch 90 Day Fiance and Love After Lockup for some reality TV goodness! 😉
Hoping: Hoping my thyroid cancer nodule will shrink by the time I re-check via ultrasound in October.
Needing: More of this Platinum Skincare B Complex moisturizer – it’s one of the only products out there that doesn’t make me break out and actually seems to prevent acne. I originally got it as a press sample to review, and since then I’ve purchased it 4 or 5 times. As someone who gets TONS of skincare products to review (more than I can handle), the fact that I’m purchasing this so often speaks volumes!
Smelling: My latest fragrance obsession is one I picked up at Sprouts Market. Pacifica Beauty Persian Rose Hair and Body Mist is so nice, fresh and not overpowering, and I get a lot of compliments on it.
Wearing: I really need some new clothes. I hate buying clothes. Makeup always fits (well sort of)! My friend Courtney introduced me to Patty Boutik and I definitely want to pick some things up.
Thinking: I’ve definitely been thinking about pumpkin spiced things, candles, sweaters with leggings and boots, and Halloween-y stuff. It can’t get here soon enough.
Feeling: HOT! When is fall going to get here? Right now I have my window unit AC, swamp cooler and another fan all on full blast and it’s 84 degrees in my apartment. Send help!
Admiring: My friend Courtney (AKA Phyrra)’s latest look-book photos and her cosplay photos from DragonCon. She’s so freaking adorable.
Buying: I’m actually trying to not spend money right now! Living in LA is expensive man.
Bookmarking: I’ve recently learned that my adult acne might actually be fungal acne. I’m convinced that my “bacne” is fungal but not really sure if my face acne is also. I’ve bookmarked this page because it’s a WEALTH of knowledge on the subject. The ingredients you use (and avoid) are very different when your acne is fungal. If you think you might have this type of acne, definitely check out the site.
Disliking: Feeling overwhelmed lately. I’ve been doing treatments for the thyroid cancer and seeing tons of doctors, and it hasn’t given me much time to focus on the things I want to do. Hopefully that will end soon.
Feeling: Despite feeling overwhelmed, I do feel like I’m getting stronger, and learning how to fight and overcome my health issues. I’m a warrior and I don’t give up! I’m a stubborn Taurus!
Here’s a blank list if you want to use this “taking stock blog post” idea! You can pick and choose the ones you like. 🙂

Great read. I love this kind of post since it gives me a chance to get to know my blogger friends better. I’ll copy the list and think about doing one.

I’ve been fall focused as well and looking forward to Halloween activities. I need to find the cool stuff to do with my kids near us!

This is a fantastic post, Jen! I thoroughly enjoyed reading it. I am sending you so much love for a speedy recovery. I second that LA is an expensive place to live! I have lived here for so long that sometimes I lose perspective on just how expensive it is since the high cost of living almost becomes normalized (which is kind of crazy when you think about it).

What a fun post! But sorry you’ve been feeling overwhelmed.

I love this Jen! It’s fun but revealing too. I’m going to join in!

What a neat idea!! I’m TOTALLY stealing your list because I’ve been in a creative stump lately. Also I’m with you about shopping for clothes – they just never fit properly and it takes forever to find the ones that fit right.

Okay, that lazy river looks fun, but I’d be at the beach 24/7 staying there!
