My boyfriend’s parents are very well-known in the vegan community. Even those who don’t know their names (Zel and Reuben Allen), know their blog, Vegetarians in Paradise. Zel teaches vegan cooking classes, and she has published two books – The Nut Gourmet and a new one – Vegan for the Holidays. Since I’m lucky enough to be “family,” I have enjoyed many of these tasty dishes at Zel and Reuben’s house. If you met Zel and Reuben, they’d probably invite you to their table, but if you’re not lucky enough to get an invite, you should pick up this book.
In this vegan recipe book, you will find vegan versions of almost every holiday comfort food – from pumpkin pie to posole and from pistachio cookies to pomegranate punch. Zel explains each recipe in an easy-to-understand format. I’m not the most experienced cook, but I made the Holiday-Ready Apple Crisp for a dinner party last Thanksgiving and everyone went back for seconds! And this is coming from a girl who considers microwave dinners to be gourmet cooking! 😉
If you get a chance to read this beautiful book, please help Zel out by leaving a review on Amazon.com, Goodreads.com or BN.com and let me know what you think too! Thanks!
