I have a true and somewhat humorous story about an accident I had early one morning two years ago just two days before Christmas involving two feral kittens that I lovingly rescued just a few weeks prior to the alarming event.
It was approx. 6:30 in the morning. I was still in bed napping when the young cats began running back and forth on the upholstered head board above my head. As luck would have it, the little “darlings” started an argument with one another and a brawl broke out.
Suddenly one pushed the other off of the headboard; it’s paws scraping against the fabric on the way down, sounding like a person desperately hitting their automobile brakes but crashing instead into another vehicle.
Unfortunately for me the other vehicle was the right side of my face! I had two enormous, jagged cuts that ran from just below my right eye almost to my chin. I screamed and sat up in bed catching the horrific, bloody reflection of myself in my dresser mirror. My husband and I were horrified. I started to cry not so much because of the pain or blood but because I knew that my near perfect complexion was probably ruined.
I dressed quickly, and called my doctor. I was lucky to get in immediately and see the nurse practitioner. She put me on oral antibiotics and told me to keep plain old Neosporin on it. The next day I took it upon myself to go see the plastic surgeon’s assistant across the hall from my family doctor’s office.
Funny, I never noticed it until a delivery man with UPS opening their door hollored, “Oh my gosh!” and something inaudible as their door swung shut. He looked okay to me; just goes to show you that you just never know what other people may be going through, it’s never all about you!
When I arrived they said, “Yes, we’ve heard about you!” Quite frankly, I was somewhat stunned. Even in Columbia, SC, kitty accidents that ruin nice complexions do not make for newsworthy commentary! The doctor’s staff mentioned that the UPS man that rode in the elevator with me that one day earlier told them about my plight as he dropped off some packages there. He did seem traumatized by my sight. Looking back, I guess I did look like a bloody Mary on heels!
After the wound healed, instead of using that stinky oniony smelling Mederma, which was probably tested on animals, I went to a local, family-owned health food store called the Rosewood Market in Columbia, SC. I noticed some brown jars there that came in three different sizes called “Arbordoun’s.” It was a calendula cream, an ingredient that I knew to be natural and from the Marigold flower; and I knew it to have amazing healing abilities. It also has lavender oil in it, which I knew to be a highly purifying ingredient for the skin. Sometimes lavender is even recommended for mild acne. The cream’s ingredients didn’t stop there, it also contains olive oil, a great moisturizer, chock full of natural antioxidants.
The price range for this miracle dream cream? I couldn’t believe it! $5.95-$21.95! That was the price even just a few months ago. There’s a 4 fl.oz. size for $12.99. This cream is so uber gentle that children have been known to eat it for sore throats. You read that correctly, they even eat it!
Hey, I gave it a whirl and I’ve gotta go forth and tell you, I’ve had worse food in airports! It is even gentle enough to use around the eye area. This cream is made by hand at a creamery on Lopez Island,WA. It is natural and cruelty-free. There are no animal ingredients.
After a short period of time, I noticed the two slashes getting lighter and lighter and smaller too! Within one year I didn’t need concealer to be seen in public! The slashes on the right side of my face are 100% gone, sans any plastic surgery!
Also, I noticed that the brown driver’s spots on the left side of my face were, well the best way to describe it – breaking up and releasing their strong hold on my face. The moral of the story: I didn’t have to spend hundreds to thousands of dollars on laser treatments, microdermabrasion, or unsightly pancake makeup.
The main ingredients are: calendula, olive oil, and lavender oil. An affordable, all-pupose cream that really works and never hurt anybody! Other ingredients include: Oregon grape & comfrey, aloe, veggie glycerin, beeswax, vitamin E, lecithin, citrus seed extract and water.
The kittens (now cats) are grown up and still living with me. Their behavior is improving with age. As a wise person once said, “It’s too bad youth is wasted on the young.” People aren’t perfect, and animals aren’t either, but these cats are such a blessing now and my face looks so smooth that all is right again.
You can find Arbordoun’s skin care products in natural food stores or online.
