When the folks at Youngblood Mineral Cosmetics told me I could get medium to heavy coverage with a powder, I really didn’t believe it. I’ve heard it before. But, then I tried it. And, I have to admit – I was wrong! You can get excellent, natural-looking coverage from a powder!
I don’t love the pic of me above, but I had to share it because my skin looks flawless and trust me – it’s not! This foundation is truly amazing.
The Youngblood mineral makeup was originally created for the med spa industry. After getting facial treatments, the patients would leave with red, irritated skin. Founder, Pauline Youngblood, (a medical aesthetician) created Youngblood for these patients. She showed them that this formula could not only cover the worst inflamed, raw, angry skin, but also allow it to breathe and heal. Patients that used it didn’t want to go back to their old foundations!
Youngblood products are vegan, cruelty free (PETA-approved) and contain no talc, parabens, synthetic oils or nanoparticles. Most products are gluten-free and all are non-comedogenic (meaning they don’t cause acne). The ladies that work at Youngblood told me their skin has actually cleared up since they started using the products!
How to use the mineral foundation:
1. Start with the loose or pressed Mineral Rice Powder. Personally, I like the pressed powder. Sweep over your face with a large powder brush to absorb any moisture.
2. Apply the Natural Mineral Foundation (It comes in 16 shades – I use the Light shade) like you would any regular mineral foundation – pour a little into the cap, swirl the brush, tap it and then apply. A thicker kabuki or blush brush works best for more intense coverage. You can also apply to your chest and body if you have uneven skin or little imperfections you want to hide.
3. Sweep more Mineral Rice Powder on to set and minimize pores.
4. You can also apply the Minerals in the Mist spray to help set the makeup. Apply in the morning after cleansing or anytime during the day to refresh. It comes in several scents: Restore (grapefruit, lime and rosemary), Recharge (ginger and mint) and Refresh (tangerine and grapefruit).
If you’re just not into mineral makeup, Youngblood also has liquid, pressed powder and tinted moisturizing options. But, really – try the powder. You might be pleasantly surprised!
As a side note, I’m also in love with the Incredible Wear Gel Liner. I tried the Espresso (dark brown) color. It lasts well, is water-resistant and applies easily with a thin brush. I used eyeliner pencils for most of my life, but now I find gel liners are so much easier to apply.

I love everything I’ve tried from Youngblood. Not only is it cruelty free but it’s a fabulous brand. The cream blushes are numero uno in my book.

Their products don’t have SPF in them though…so that’s a shame!

Hey! Just want to know if it doesn’t affect that I actually don’t have acne or marks only large pores! I’m asking because I had a really bad experience with clarisonic! I think it is only for acne or conbination skin 🙁

Jen! Did you like the spray? I saw it at New Beauty and was like ohhh I want to try…. but then I don’t know anything about it… I have a friend that works there so if it’s awesome I’ll have to get some from her.

Hi Michelle – I got this response from the YoungBlood representative: We don’t make any SPF clams, although thanks to titanium dioxide you do get a bit of physical sun protection. If we had to put a number on it, it would most likely be a 15 (although this varies according to how much product is actually used); but also take into consideration that it wears off throughout the day. As a rule of thumb it’s usually best to wear sunscreen under any mineral makeup to ensure the most sun protection possible.
