Clean & Cruelty Free Products from Honest Beauty
My first introductions to the Honest brand was when I had my daughter. I love their products for babies and keep their lotions, detanglers and all-in-one washes handy for my little Zoe. I’m not going to lie, I use half (ok, all) of the products myself because they smell nice, work well, and make me feel good about their ingredients and their effort to make clean products that are safe and reliable. I knew they had come out with their Honest Beauty line which had skincare and makeup, but recently found out they also had haircare specific products too!
Since I was already familiar with the baby/kids line of bath products I was pretty interested to see how the hair products would work as well. I recently started coloring my hair so it was in need of more moisture than a few months ago, and I started to actually style it a bit more now that I have a new cut and color.
I was sent the Beyond Hydrated Shampoo and Conditioner and decided to give it a go the other night. The shampoo gently cleanses the hair with a rich lather and noticeable herbal scent. Nothing overpowering, but something my nose detected because we all want shampoo that smells good and clean. To keep my hair looking healthy, the formula foregoes Sulfates which can be drying and uses niaciniamide and tocotrienals for it’s antioxidant benefits. I followed with the Beyond Hydrated Conditioner which didn’t smell like much at all compared to the shampoo. I did feel that my hair was very soft after allowing it to sit for a few minutes while I shaved and then rinsed. Probably due in part to the sweet almond oil and Aloe Vera that makes hair soft, shiny and healthy.
Now that I use a flat iron to make waves in my hair, I like to use heat protectant sprays. I wasn’t always so cautious with my hair, but now that I color and heat style it, I really try to do what I can to keep my hair looking as healthy as possible with the amount of processing that it goes through every six weeks. After I got out of the shower and towel dried my hair, I spritz the Honestly Protected Heat Protectant Spray all over that helps prevent your hair from being scorched up to 450 degrees with your blow dryers and hot irons. By using a good heat protectant, you can fend off breakage and keep hair manageable. I didn’t notice it making blow drying go any faster, but that’s fine as long as my hair is kept healthy.
Most days my hair is up in a ponytail, but when I wear it down I usually need to give it a little oompf for some body. That’s where the Honestly Uplifted Volumizing Spray comes in. Before my hair is fully dry I spritz this near the roots and kinda tousle with my fingers to lift it a bit. I then go back with the blow dryer and finish the job. My hair generally falls pretty flat without any product in it so a quick and easy to use product like this is a must for someone who wants good looking hair without too much fuss.
My favorite product out of everything I tried was the Honestly Polished Dry Condition + Shine Serum. This by far is the lightest and most comfortable shine serum I have used. Like EVER. It feels like nothing in your hair. Just a few drops of this clear liquid in your hands and then run it through the lengths of your hair for a bit of extra conditioning shine. Usually shine serums will always feel heavy on my fine hair but this one is seriously one of a kind. THIS is a repurchase product you guys. Take my word for it. Soooo lightweight and extra nourishing with avocado, grapeseed and sea buckthorn oils minus any silicone additives. This product is also great for smoothing ponytails and taming frizz and you seriously only need a couple drops at a time.
I think this is a great line for your normal day-to-day care, but I think I should probably look into their “Restore” line (HELLO, hair masque I’m talking ‘bout you) since my hair needs some extra TLC these days. I think just adding the mask in weekly would benefit my recent do.
