Skincare For Mamas and Mamas-to-be

Being that I just had a baby four months ago, I’m definitely still on the cautious mama wagon checking everything that I put on me or my baby. Anything we put on our skin can be absorbed into the bloodstream, and can later affect breastfed babies through our milk. What I love about the Belli Skincare brand is that they are “picky for a purpose” in choosing their ingredients and rely on published medical research to decide what goes into their pregnancy and breastfeeding safe products. All their products are cruelty free, gluten free, paraben free, and free of artificial dyes and fragrances.

Belli Skincare has an entire line of face and body products to get you through those first nine months and beyond. I’ve previously reviewed some of their products in the past and now have the opportunity to try their Pure Radiance Facial Sunscreen which came with perfect timing now that it’s Summer, I live near the beach, and I take my daughter for a walk everyday after her nap.

Belli Pure Radiance Facial Sunscreen SPF 25 is made with physical barriers like Zinc Oxide and Titanium Dioxide; making it a mineral based sunscreen. Why is that important? Sunscreens are either made of physical barriers like those mentioned above that block UV rays, or chemical barriers like oxybenzone or avobenzone that absorb UV rays. Chemical barriers tend to cause more irritation to skin and some have been found to have harmful effects on babies growing in mommy’s tummy. Nothing a pregnant or breastfeeding mama wants to worry about!

This sunscreen is thick, so expect to take a minute to rub it in before heading out the door. It also has a tint to it which will work for lighter skin tones. If you have a dark skin tone it may leave a cast on the skin that will need to be masked with your usual makeup. Once applied it didn’t feel heavy at all and I forgot I even had anything on my face. I wore this sunscreen on the hottest sunny day and got no burns at all.  You do need to reapply every two hours, sooner if you are sweating up a storm, but we managed to get home in time before I needed to do that.

I’ve been using this sunscreen for about two weeks now and haven’t experienced any breakouts  (hooray, because I had enough of those during pregnancy), and feel well protected during my daily walks under the California sun. In other words, this is a hit with me, much like the rest of the products I’ve sampled from Belli.

If you’re pregnant, a breastfeeding mama, or just plain prefer products that go through stringent screenings for safety and efficacy then Belli Skincare is definitely a brand you’ll want to check into.  The entire line is OB/GYN and Dermatologist recommended as well!
