Pregnancy Safe Skincare
When you are expecting or nursing a baby, it’s so important to look at the things we eat, and use on our body. Keeping healthy by avoiding unsafe chemicals is one of the first things you can do to help keep you and baby safe from any ingredients that may be linked to birth defects or miscarriages. When Belli Skincare contacted me asking if I would like to review their products I was delighted to finally use the skincare line specifically formulated to be pregnancy safe.
The Belli Skincare line is physician formulated and are tested for a variety of things such as teratogens (things that cause birth defects), allergic reactions, and ran through Lactmed screenings for those who are nursing. They are made with natural, gentle ingredients and are free of parabens, BPA, phthalates and artificial dyes, so there is no question of these products being safe for everyone – pregnant or not! Belli Skincare also uses gentle blends of essential oils to provide aromatherapy benefits to calm, soothe and uplift the senses when used.
I was sent three products to try: The Anti-Blemish Facial Wash, the Pure & Pampered Body Wash, and Belli Sheer Comfort Lip Balm.
First and foremost, I NEEDED that Anti-Blemish Facial Wash. It seems within the month of finding out I was pregnant my skin went downhill – and fast. Acne that seemed to multiply and could no longer be treated with my typical regimen of Salicylic Acid, Benzoyl Peroxide or Tretinoin. I felt doomed. It was one symptom of pregnancy that I hoped I wouldn’t have to deal with, but it hit me hard and fast. Initially, I thought this wash would be too gentle for my skin that was used to harsher chemicals. However, I found that by using it twice daily, it calmed my skin (and angry pimples) and the lemon peel oil acted as an anti-bacterial agent to kill bacteria while lactic acid helped to exfoliate my clogged skin. The scent is light and the tube is large and should last me a couple months at least while I deal with the terrors of pregnancy acne. I’d love to couple this with the Control Spot Treatment and Pre-treatment Scrub they have on their website.
The Pure & Pampered Body Wash created a really nice lather while using it in the shower, without having to pour a whole lot onto my shower poof. Better than the other “healthy” sulfate-free body washes I have in there usually. It has a very light scent of lavender and chamomile that isn’t overpowering and leaves my skin feeling soft and moisturized – something SO important for skin that is stretching over several months time. Luckily, I haven’t suffered from any skin itchiness (yet) from skin stretching, but at least I know this wash is doing it job to gently clean without stripping the skin of the precious natural oils it needs.
Lastly, the Belli Sheer Comfort Lip Balm. My lip savior. Over the past couple years I developed a condition called stressed induced perioral dermatitis. To sum it up, from time to time I get flare ups of extremely dry lips but itchy inflamed skin around my mouth. It’s a terribly uncomfortable feeling and can sometimes take weeks or months to go away. Since being pregnant it happens less often, but has happened a couple times in the past 5 months. Very little can soothe it, you just deal with it as best you can. The sheer comfort lip balm is made with medical-grade, ultra-purified lanolin (Note: not for vegans) – and that’s it! It has zero taste or odor to it and leaves my lips feeling comfortable. I even slather some on around my mouth because it feels so good. It does have a bit of shine so just use on the lips (and not around the lips) if you plan to step out of the house. I think I need to grab a couple tubes of this so I have one in my purse, one on my nightstand, and one in my bathroom because I like it so much.
All in all, I really love everything about this brand and that it works effectively, and is safe for me and my baby.

People always want to go as natural as possible during pregnancy. This applies t both moms and dads because if dad is using something that isn’t safe, it can get on his partner’s skin.
