Craft beer body and hair-care products. Yes, you heard me right! BRÖÖ beauty products are cruelty free and made from beer! This product venture was born from the personal stories from the founder’s mother and her 1950s hair care solution – pouring beer on her hair for natural body and shine! Beer has been being used for ages on hair. Originally it was intended to prevent dandruff and later it was discovered to create beautiful shine. Discovering some of these facts myself, I am surprised it has taken so long for a product like this to reach the mass market. After a couple of years of experimenting and playing around, the founders of BRÖÖ have finally perfected the art of blending handcrafted beer into salon quality shampoo.
Why are the ingredients in beer so great for hair? Barley has a wealth of B vitamins, proteins, and minerals, which are the building blocks of great hair, skin, and bones. Yeast, another important brewing ingredient, is also filled with B vitamins. Water. The better the water, the better the beer. The same goes for shampoo. Broo uses the finest pH balanced mountain water. Hops has essential oils that are used to add flavor to beer. These oils are filled with antioxidants, which is great for shampoo because of its toning and astringent properties.
In addition, BRÖÖ products are sulfate-free, paraben-free, phthalate-free, silicone-free, vegan, cruelty free, GMO-free and has no added fragrances or dyes.
When I got this product, I thought it would be fun to take a bath with my boyfriend and have him use the product too. I have read that their products do smell a little weird but I like beer. The products I used were their Citrus Pale Ale Shampoo (which has a strong summer, citrus smell) and the Oatmeal Porter Body Wash (which smells like oatmeal cookies). Both have a faint bitter smell which I can only assume is from the hops. When my boyfriend left the bathroom, and then returned, he said the restroom smelled ridiculously of oranges!
The shampoo is a little runny, so just a little will do. Whenever I finish up in the shower I have to bite my tongue cause I have so many tangles in my hair. This wasn’t the case after using BRÖÖ. This was a nice plus that I was not expecting. I suppose it may be a natural detangler. The next day my hair was smooth, shiny, manageable and had extra volume.
I like this product and I think it’s an inventive idea. I like the fact that it’s not marketed as a man or woman’s product but rather unisex! I will definitely be using it in the future.

I actually used to drop about half of glass of beer on my hair after I had washed it with shampoo. After rinsing it, I would use a cotton pad to drop the beer on my wet hair. It did wonders. It was so shiny and thick. So glad they made a shampoo out of beer!! Thanks for sharing!

So far I’ve been using Pro Naturals Moroccan Argan Oil Shampoo and Conditioner on my hair and the results have been really satisfying, my hair looks completely nourished and healthy 🙂

I have been using straight beer for rinsing my hair after shampooing. It is marvellous, making my hair thicker and healthier. I would like to know the name of a shampoo with beer contents which can purchased in Canada. I used to use a beer shampoo long ago and remember how much I liked it; don’t know why I stopped?

Bröö: This stuff is the real deal and then some. I, too, recently discovered the line at Whole Foods and was blown away by the quality and modern take on the ancient practice of
using beer for enhancing hair’s shine and health. The last “beer”
shampoo I used was Body on Tap, and I seriously doubt there was any real
beer in it, plus it was super harsh. I even tried pouring flat beer on
my hair as a rinse, but then you smell like a brewery all day.
I’ve tried some other newer versions over the years, but they all have
drawbacks. They either smell awful and/or they are full of chems that I
don’t want. Bröö has done more than bring beer shampoo out of the
80s….like NO sulfates, no synthetics, and no silicones. The three things
that impress me the most personally? Even though there are no sulfates,
it lathers like mad. And it smells fresh and clean. And it’s from an
independent company. I use the Pale Ale (Volumizing) set on my longish,
fine hair and I look like I’ve got almost twice as much hair. lol I
tried the Porter (moisturizing) but that was too much for my hair, too
much moisture. But it smelled like rich vanilla. The volumizing has a
faint beer scent with a louder citrus overtone. Especially nice to use
during these hot summer months. They better never stop making this
stuff. My only complaint is that I cannot find the body washes
anywhere…WF doesn’t stock them. But there’s always drugstore.com. Go Bröö!

Just when you think you have seen everything….someone comes up with the idea to put beer in a shampoo! Brilliant!
