If you think faux tanning is important in the summer, it’s even more important in the winter when there’s no sun to be found!
Anyone who knows me personally knows that I have an ongoing love affair with having tanned skin. When I was a child I was always out and the sun camping, boogie-boarding, or boating and was always able to develop a beautiful shade of brown. FYI: There was always sunscreen involved — but with my Venezuelan background I was able to get tan very easily without trying.
Tanning the Smart Way.
Now that I am older and smarter, I have stopped basking in the sun and relied on sunless-tanner products to give me that oh-so-gorgeous color that I miss so much. I have tried TONS of brands out there from high-end to drugstore and over the years have found different favorites that have worked for me. My latest find is CocoaBrown that I discovered at this past years Summer Soiree.
Since finding out about this brand back in July, I have purchased two set for myself and additional sets for everyone in my office to try. They all HAD to try it after seeing my results that were completely streak-free and perfect in color.
You start by prepping your skin with the TOUGH STUFF scrub in the shower. I love this scrub because the grain really left my legs feeling polished and smooth. And although the name of the brand would lead you to think it smells like chocolate, it actually has a very pretty floral scent to it.
I like to go for the darkest color possible so with Cocoa Brown I usually go for three applications over a weeks time. You apply the greenish colored foam with a tanning mitt and allow it to dry for 1-3 hours. (I go two-three hours each time). I’m able to wear loose clothes around the house and go about my business until its time to rinse off. During the setting time I detect no stinkyness which is nice because tanning lotions usually have some scent going on.
With this tanning foam you really should do your regular shower beforehand and plan to shave the next day. After the tanning foam has set for a couple of hours you can take a warm water ONLY shower to rinse the excess off, and follow with the Chocolate Whip Oil-free Body Moisturizer which smells floral and chocolatey all at the same time! I tend to apply a ton of lotion daily so this stuff went quick and I usually run out of this the quickest –but I do find it helps the tan stay longer if you use it daily.
I love this set because the color is great, it’s affordable, and super easy to prep, apply, and maintain. My only wish is that they become available in brick and mortar stores and not online so I can see the entire line in person! If you need a tan (that can be light or dark) I highly suggest you check out Cocoa Brown!

Thank you for noting the importance of safe tanning procedures!!! More people need to be aware of the merciless rays of the sun despite the fact that they do provide many with a very beautiful and warm, glowing tan. 🙂

I’ve never heard of that self tanner I’ll have to check it out. You might also want to try Tanceuticals CC Self Tanning Lotion. They’re certified cruelty-free by PETA! I found out about them on http://www.selftanning.com where they ranked them #1. Anyway, thanks for the review 🙂
