Cruelty Free Face Masks
Dry Skin Face Mask
Try the vegan LUSH Oatifix Mask for dry skin. Few things are more soothing than a big bowl of banana porridge, all sweet and squishy. Did you know the same is true for your skin? Sensitive, dry or irritated faces love Oatifix for its calming oats, softening freshly mashed banana and ground almonds to slough away flaky skin. This mask is also great for healing red, angry skin. Because it’s super fresh, you’ll have to go to your local LUSH store to pick some up.
Anti-Aging Face Mask
Stimul8 Mud Instant Skin Transformation Treatment by Gr8ful Skin Couture is a facial in a jar. It’s very potent and because of that, you’ll feel some tingling. I recommend doing a patch test first on the inside of your arm, but I have sensitive skin and I was able to use it with no problem. The tingling is caused by ingredients that exfoliate and increase circulation, which is what you want for cell turnover and renewal. There’s no filler in this vegan mask (hence the price is a little hefty), but remember what you’d pay for ONE facial at a salon, and suddenly the price seems more reasonable. As you can see, all of the sustainably harvested ingredients are active (no water or other fillers):
Ingredients: Dead Sea Mud, Moor Mud, Basil Distillate, Sea Kelp Bioferment, Wasabi Extract, Black Cumin Seed Oil, Radish Root Ferment Filtrate, Kombu Seaweed, Moroccan Lava Clay, Kelp Seaweed, Malic Acid (from apples), Dulse Seaweed, Amla Fruit Powder, Caffeine Extract, Calendula Extract, Papain, Chamomile Extract, Zeolite Clay, Aspen Bark Extract, Bladderwrack Seaweed, Green Tea Extract, Bromelain, Frankincense Oil, Oil of Oregano, Patchouli Dark Oil, Clove Bud Extra Oil, Peppermint Oil, Ajowan Oil, Cinnamon Bark Oil, Pine Scotch Oil, Vetiver Oil, Holy Basil (Tulsi) Oil, Manuka Oil, White Grapefruit Oil, Copaiba Balsam Oil
You can read more about these vegan anti-aging face mask ingredients here. This is a dark, black mud mask, so when my boyfriend and I tried it out for the first time, our dog didn’t recognize us and went nuts barking and growling. It was pretty funny. I used it three nights in a row as the owner recommended, and my skin definitely had a new glow. It was softer and small dark spots were lightened. I didn’t have any irritation like I normally do with really potent, anti-aging skincare products. I have to say – the packaging could use some love, but don’t let that fool you – this is a great, high-end product that works!
Normal Skin Face Mask
BB Seaweed by LUSH is a best-seller for its ability turn every rough patch into smooth, supple skin. No surprises here, BB Seaweed is packed full of none other than the ocean greenery itself! Seven pounds of it in each batch, in fact. Finely ground almonds gently slough away dry skin, rose absolute balances skin tone and organic extra virgin olive oil moisturizes. Slather up in seaweed and feel your skin smile. This is another mask that you’ll have to buy in person at a LUSH store because it’s uber-fresh!
Combination to Oily Skin Face Mask
The Indie Lee Clearing Mask is quickly becoming one of my favorites. I use it to de-junk clogged pores and congested skin and keep acne flare ups away. Bentonite clay, glycolic acid, salicylic acid, camphor and zinc oxide help eliminate dead skin cells and keep acne at bay, while hyaluronic acid, seaweed and chamomile nourish and protect your skin. It doesn’t irritate my sensitive skin, but it really works! I even brought it to the Korean spa the other day and although my face had been steamed and exfoliated, there was still no irritation. Highly recommended!
Sensitive Skin Face Mask
The Ultracalming Relief Masque from Dermalogica is a great one for beauty bloggers since we’re trying so many new products all the time! My skin gets red and aggravated when I use skincare products that don’t agree with me, so this mask is a welcome relief. It helps to minimize sensitivity and redness. Use this creamy, calming treatment after cleansing or any time skin needs lasting relief from sensitized skin flare-ups and redness. The mask contains colloidal oatmeal and plant-based ingredients that work below the surface to interrupt inflammatory triggers that lead to sensitization, while helping to minimize discomfort, burning and itching. Algae, mugwort and a blend of mushroom extracts help with redness. Oat and Ginger combined with bisabolol and boerhavia root extract work to help relieve and restore skin while fighting future flare-ups. No artificial fragrances or colors.

Hi Jen – thanks for sharing this post. For daily maintenance, I personally use sheet masks such as the ones from Neutrogena as they are just so convenient and jam packed with goodness. I find that they also provide relief for sensitive skin, especially one that has been irritated with acne medications such as benzoyl peroxide.

My daughter is vegan so we loved your recommendations. We have tried Dermalogica also and agree with you that is very calming for sensitive skin. Now we really want to try the Indie Lee one for oily skin. It sounds great!
