I’m a hyper-aware type of person.
I’m the kind of person that needs to know what ingredients are in the granola bar I’m munching on, where my veggies come from, what kind of chemicals are in my household cleaners and what affect my choices have on the environment.
I started doing research on my household cleaning products a few years ago when I was pregnant with my son, Reid. I found that many cleaners contained sulfates, phosphates and parabens (just for starters)—which explained why I often felt dizzy and light-headed after scrubbing the shower or mopping the bathroom floor.
I realized that my habits needed to change, not only because of my pregnancy, but also for a better life in general. As a nutritionist, personal training entrepreneur and now, a single mom, I care a lot about making healthy and safe choices that don’t harm the environment, my family or me. I began searching for household cleaners, furniture, fragrances and décor that supported animal and human rights. Since starting my research a few years ago, I’ve found that so many more businesses and consumers are becoming more aware of the types of products they’re using or producing.
If you’re interested in switching to cruelty free products, keep in mind that the transition is gradual. It’s okay to start small and slowly change your buying habits.
Cleaning Products:
One of the first products I needed to find was a carpet cleaner. I’d recently had new carpet squares installed in my den and needed a quality but environmentally friendly cleaner. I heard about Earth Friendly Products through a friend and ordered their carpet shampoo as well as the Safeguard Home Retail cleaning pack, all for around $40. Earth Friendly Products quickly became my go-to company for cleaners. Their products have even recently been stocked in stores nationwide, so I’m also saving on shipping.
Home Fragrances:
I love smell-goods. Coming back to a house that both smells and looks good every evening is the perfect ending to a busy day. I found The Good Home Co. through my internet research and fell in love. Their scents are affordable and aromatic while their mission is perfectly aligned with my interests.
Furniture:
After incorporating the simpler cruelty free products in my lifestyle, I started looking for furniture when I recently remodeled my son’s room for his fifth birthday. I discovered Eco-Furniture online. They’re great about using recycled materials, preserving the environment and finding alternatives to animal intensive products like silk and leather. Though it’s a bigger investment, I’m fully pleased with my decision to use Eco-Furniture for my remodel.
It’s okay if your transition into cruelty free products takes a little time. I’ve been on the search for earth friendly products for a few years and I’m still adjusting. It’s getting much easier since most companies are becoming increasingly interested in the environment. Start off easy with just a few cleaning products and then branch out from there as you find more companies and products. Our planet will thank you!

Agree with you and Barry here. Here at Kwik Dry, we use an All-Natural Citrus-based cleaner that’s safe for humans and animals. It’s commonly overlooked in the commercial cleaning industry, but it’s very important to be conscious of what we’re cleaning with. Great blog by the way – keep up the good work!
