Not everyone knows this, but I am a huge fan of health and wellness supplements! I eat right (most of the time), work out, and try to get the right amount of water and sunlight, but sometimes mother nature needs a little help. I consider a “health hack” to be anything that gives me an edge on health, fitness, clear skin, stronger nails, healthier hair, etc.
My fiance got me interested in making smoothies and juices. He calls the blends he makes for us in his Vitamix his “Life Juice” because he says it’ll keep us around longer! We buy organic fruits and veggies and blend them up to make delicious shakes. I’m always looking for great additions to make our juices more powerful. I have been experimenting with The Power Workout protein powder and Beetroot Babe beet powder by CORREXIKO, and I think you’ll really like them.
First, let me tell you about Beetroot Babe. I always get excited when I find freshly blended juices with beets, because they are so good for you and my body responds well to them.
What’s so great about beets? Well they aren’t as popular as some of the other veggies, but they should be! They contain loads of Vitamin C (helps the immune system and lowers inflammation), betacyanin (detoxifies the liver and helps remove toxins and heavy metals) and tryptophan (an amino acid that helps to boost mood and brain function). They also contain large amounts of potassium, calcium, copper, selenium, zinc, iron, manganese, folates, flavonoids and carotenoids. They can help with the absorption of iron (which is huge for me because I’m usually anemic), boost metabolism (YES!), reduce blood pressure, raise glutathione levels (the master antioxidant), and give your skin a glow (the antioxidants reduce free radical damage that can cause premature aging). Studies even show increases in cardiovascular and resistance training for up to 16 percent longer than average following consistent use. Pretty impressive!
I don’t love cutting fresh beets because it tends to get messy. CORREXIKO’s Beetroot Babe is a very large, re-sealable package of powdered organic beetroot that is super easy to use. You can mix it into smoothies or juices (like I did here), or sprinkle it onto quinoa, salads or porridge. Or, you can cook with it – mix it into healthy pancakes, protein bars or other baked goods. You can keep it in the fridge and it will last a long time – just use as needed.
So, here’s my easy recipe for gorgeous skin. I call it the Vegan Skin Rejuvenator but it does much more than make your skin pretty!
- 2 cups organic kale
- 2 cups organic spinach
- 5 stalks organic celery
- 1 cup organic parsley
- 1 organic cucumber
- 1 red organic apple
- 1 tablespoon Beetroot Babe (organic beetroot powder)
Rinse the veggies well, then cut into chunks. Add them to a blender or juicer. Then add the Beetroot Babe powder. Mix well, and drink up! You’ll get a dark red color – similar to the picture above. If you’re trying to avoid sugar, you can eliminate the apple (leave it in for a little extra sweetness). The mixture should last about 3 days in the fridge.
I’ve been hitting the gym again lately. And doing calisthenics and cycling on my exercise bike when I’m at home. I have been using CORREXIKO’s FI’T Power Workout as a supplement to my breakfast smoothies and for additional protein before and after workouts. It’s vegan, sugar-free and made with 21 grams of organic, raw plant proteins per serving (yellow pea, brown rice, hemp, chia, quinoa and amaranth). It also has enzymes (amylase, protease, papain, lipase) for easy digestion and electrolytes (so important when you’re working out) because sometimes water is not enough. Remember to stay hydrated, but don’t overdo it – too much water can actually deplete your enzymes. Be aware, especially when it’s hot and you’re active. The powder also contains acerola cherry, astaxanthin and reishi to reduce inflammation and help you recover after working out. The antioxidants also help your skin to reduce premature aging from free radicals.
There are no artificial sweeteners, sugar or chemical flavors, so you’ll need to mix it with a flavored drink or smoothie. You can simply mix it with cacao and rice or almond milk for a delicious treat. You can also bake with it – add it to muffins, pancakes or healthy snacks for a protein boost. The powder is also gluten free, dairy free and soy free (no GMOs either).
Anything that helps me recover from a workout faster, increases protein for muscle growth, keeps me hydrated and raises my metabolism is a major health hack in my book.
I love the packaging and smart ingredients in these products from CORREXIKO. They are big on NOT adding fillers, cheap ingredients, GMOs, and other junk like other brands do. Just raw, whole foods that make you feel and look great. Stay tuned and I’ll tell you my thoughts on their Close Up Skin Supplement and maybe we’ll do a giveaway. 🙂

Smoothies are fantastic to sneak in extra nutrients without the hassle of cooking. I am a huge fan of beets because of the great health benefits you mentioned. If you have time to cook fresh beets, golden beets are also rich in nutrients but you don’t have to worry about the red color getting everywhere :)!
