Dermalogica PreCleanse Balm and Special Cleansing Gel Review
The Dermalogica PreCleanse has been a staple for me for many years. As an oily-skinned girl, I was hesitant to try it at first, but then I realized how amazing it is for removing makeup and oil from your face. Now that long-wear makeup is the norm, it’s even MORE important to use an oil-based pre-cleanse!
If you’re worried about putting oil on your face, consider this: LIKE attracts LIKE. Basically when you use an oil on dry skin, it attracts other oils from your face and allows you to rinse it off. It also breaks down makeup that may not come off with water or regular cleansers. I have tried many oil-based cleansers, and the one I always come back to is Dermalogica PreCleanse. It takes off more makeup than other products I’ve tried. And I love that it emulsifies when you add water, so you’re left with ZERO oil after rinsing. And just to be sure you get everything off (especially if you have oily skin), they recommend following it up with a second cleanse.
Recently Dermalogica launched a new version – the PreCleanse Balm. The balm is quite similar to the oil, but comes in a semi-solid state. It’s not a solid block – it’s squeezable from the tube. As soon as you rub it in, the heat from your hands and face will give you the same type of oil as the cult classic product. It’s not always easy to travel with liquids, so this balm is the perfect solution. You can keep it in your gym bag or take it with you when you travel. It also comes with a cleansing mitt to gently exfoliate while you clean.
Follow that oil cleanse up with the Special Cleansing Gel. No matter your skin type, this gentle cleanser will remove any last traces of dirt and makeup, while soothing the skin with balm mint and lavender. The result is clean, soft skin – never oily, and never tight.

I have oily but dehydrated skin. When I first heard of oil cleansing, it made me cringe. But it has actually helped keep my oily skin from getting worse.
