How to look better in selfies and group photos
Are you tired of un-tagging yourself in photos as soon as they make their way onto social media? Do you want to take selfies that you’re proud of? Mastering the art of taking great photos is a tricky venture, but it can be done. Stop admiring people who seem to look fantastic in every photo they take, and learn their secrets! These are six DOs and don’ts for looking better in group photos and selfies.
1. Eliminate the double chin. How many times has a great picture of you been ruined by your double chin? You can easily eliminate it from your photos by paying attention to how you position your neck and head. Just before the photo is snapped, protrude your face slightly outward and extend your neck. It will feel strange, but you’ll like what you see afterwards.
2. Don’t use excessive filters. While there’s nothing wrong with using a basic filter to manipulate the shadows and colors of your photos, using a harsh filter will ruin the photo. Avoid filters that make you appear washed out or unrecognizable.
3. Stand tall for group photos. It might be difficult depending on the possible circumstances, but always try to make yourself appear as tall as possible when you’re being photographed. This will slenderize not only your body, but also your neck and face.
4. Don’t face the camera head-on. Try to think about angles when you’re being photographed or taking a selfie. There aren’t many flattering photos of people who are facing the camera directly; it often creates an unwanted, 2D effect. Turn your head slightly to the left or right, whichever side is most flattering, and keep it there.
5. Take the time to study your favorite selfies and photos. Instead of trying to find a new trick that works for you, study older photos of yourself that you like. What makes these photos flattering? How are you posing? What are you doing with your hands? Try to recreate these angles and poses in new selfies or group photos that you take.
6. Lastly, don’t stand above the camera. Whether you’re the one taking the picture or someone else is in control, never allow a photo to be snapped at an angle lower than your face. If you’re taller than the camera person taking a group photo, opt to sit down or kneel in front of the group. If you’re taking a selfie, always hold the camera slightly above the level of your face.
Above all, don’t forget to SMILE and be yourself. Pictures aren’t interesting to look at if the people in them seem uninterested and tense. Keep this in mind as you take selfies and pose with others for group photos. And most of all – have fun and relax!
