How to Get Perfect Brows on a Budget
I’ve always been a hairy girl. My French, Italian, European-mutt ancestry means that I learned about facial hair removal as soon as I hit puberty. My mom and grandma taught me how to pluck, tweeze, wax, and laser, when I was a young teenager, but apparently the battle is never going to end! As I’m getting into my late ’30s, I’m realizing that even MORE hair is popping up. Can I get a break?
We all have some facial hair we want to get rid of. Maybe it’s above or below your lip, maybe it’s your chin, or maybe you’re lucky and have hardly any peach fuzz. But I don’t know anyone who doesn’t have stray eyebrow hair. It can be expensive to go to a salon to get your brows waxed, threaded or sugared every few weeks, so I have partnered with Parissa to show you how to get perfect brows on a budget in the comfort of your own home.
Parissa is a Leaping Bunny certified, cruelty free brand. They just came out with a new Precision Waxing Pen that is cruelty free AND vegan. It’s an easy to use salon-quality wax (collophonium and gum rosin from spruce and pine trees) that comes in an applicator pen. It’s fragrance-free, which I appreciate as someone with very sensitive skin. You don’t need a giant, messy, bubbling pot of wax to use this.
Here’s how it works:
Step 1: Do a patch test if necessary. Don’t wash your face before you wax (your natural oils help to buffer your skin). Heat the wax pen by submerging it in very hot water for a minute (or you can use a hair dryer to warm the pen). I found that the water needed to be very hot – not quite boiling to really melt the wax properly.
Step 2: Click the pen to get the wax flowing. Apply the wax to your skin in small sections (in the direction of hair growth). Be careful to stay away from any hairs you want to keep! Less is more, so start with small sections until you get the hang of it. You want a thin layer of wax.
Step 3: Hold your skin taut with one hand, while placing the included cotton strip over the wax. Zip it off in the reverse direction of hair growth. Repeat on each section. If you’re having trouble removing the hair, try a thinner layer of wax. After you’re done, if you have any wax residue left, use the included azulene oil to remove it. The azulene also acts as antiseptic and anti-inflammatory, which can help to prevent ingrown hairs.
Remember to use caution if you’re recently had a lot of sun exposure, or if you’re using skincare ingredients or skin treatments that thin the skin (AHAs, Accutane, retinols, laser treatments, etc).
The Parissa Precision Waxing Pen retails for $12 and it will last you for several treatments. It comes with cotton strips and azulene oil, so you own’t need to buy anything else to get started. This is definitely a cost effective way to get perfect brows on a budget! To save even more, use coupon code BUNNY for 25% off any purchase over $10 at Parissa.com!
