Veganlicious Gifting: Jane Iredale’s In the Blink of a Smoky Eye Kit
Last minute gift alert! If there’s still someone on your shopping list, you have a few days for Jane Iredale to come to your rescue. This season they offered their “In The Blink of a Smoky Eye” Kit, which will dress up eyes for parties during the holidays and all year round. The colors are a bit different than your standard smoky palette – keep reading to find out how they fared in our trial.
I’d be remiss to talk about this eyeshadow kit without filling you in (or, if you’re a regular reader, reminding you) about the brand, Jane Iredale. Jane Iredale makes truly high-quality skin care and makeup. They have have always been dedicated to makeup that is good for body as much as for your sense of self. They are completely cruelty free and the large majority of their products are vegan. So much so that the list shown on their website names products that AREN’T vegan as opposed to products that are. (Dream come true.)
The reason this kit makes such a great gift is that it comes with INSTRUCTIONS. Not just pictures and suggestions, but specific directives such as “use sponge to press ‘Double Espresso’ shade onto outer third of lid and again along upper and lower lash line.” Basically, if you know the anatomy of your eye, you can figure this out. They include complete instructions for FIVE different smoky looks. The kit also includes a double-sided applicator: one side is brush and one side is sponge. (The sponge looks like the disposable type you get in drugstore palettes, but this one is different, sleeker, and washable.)
The colors include a nude base, a jet black, a few browns, and unique purple and green shades. Again, I can’t say enough about the quality of these shadows. They are highly pigmented, so a little goes a long way. At the same time, the powders are tightly packed, so there’s less fall-out (read: messy eyeshadow powder everywhere) while you’re trying to work. I sometimes take forever to do my eyeshadow because I struggle to blend different shades. Honestly, I found these shades much easier to blend than most, which made them easier to work with and shortened my prep time.
And what about these green and purple shades? All I can say is don’t knock it until you try it. Both colors brought out my green eyes and have beautiful effects for other eyes as well. My only tip for purple shadow is to make sure you have great concealer underneath- on pale skin like mine, a purple shadow can bring out improperly concealed bags.
Jane Iredale is sold online as well as at various upscale locations across the country. You can find your most convenient retailer, (online or otherwise), here. I was thinking about gifting this kit to a friend after reviewing it…but now I’m not sure. I might need to keep it for myself for further testing. 🙂
