Question of the Week: Which is better, Ulta or Sephora?
Well now that’s like asking me to choose between my children! I love Ulta or Sephora and for different reasons. Sephora is the one I go to the most but that’s mostly because it’s located at The Grove and my fiance and I got there to eat and see movies a lot. So stopping in to see what’s new is easy. It has more of a high end feel than Ulta, and there are some brands that you can only get at Sephora (like Kat Von D Beauty). BUT, Ulta has brands that you can’t get at Sephora, like pretty much every drugstore brand. And they have a much bigger selection of hair products. They both have discount programs, which are fun, but never help me out very much. Probably because I’m not a great bargain shopper or coupon-er. So all in all, I’m a huge fan of both and I honestly don’t think I can pick a favorite. Which do you prefer? Ulta or Sephora? Let me know in the comments!

Ulta is a stand alone store and therefore easier to get to ….sephora is only in the malls, which I don’t go to often. Ultas discount program is easy. You get points for every purchase and just use them in other purchases. But…with the recent stories and lawsuit of Ulta putting returned, used products back on the shelf, I am hesitant to go back there.

For me its Ulta…maybe because I always had good experience shopping their and the staff is very friendly.

Good Point Karen…..I never really noticed Sephora being only in malls. Sephora was my go to store. The employees are super helpful and always around..whereas in Ulta I can never find anyone to help me. Sephora gives samples to take home and Ulta does not. I like Sephora’s Beauty Insider Program. I like Ulta’s program too. And Ulta always hands out 20% off coupons (even on prestigious brands). Something that puts Ulta just a little past Sephora. I have had to be on a budget recently and the 20% helps A LOT. These days I frequent Ulta more because It’s what I have near me…the closest Sephora is 45 minutes away. 🙁 I feel a little lost that I’m not able to get to Sephora as much lol. But like you said Jen, both have pros and cons.

Ulta by far and large has the largest selection, however, I have experienced very bad customer service on more than one occasion, and I’ve been haggled about returning items. On one occasion the store manager was rude, so I had to actually call Ulta’s customer service department from inside of the store to get it resolved, which made her look very bad. Sephora’s employee’s are always very helpful, and they’re great about giving samples of the products. So, I’m going with Sephora! Customer service wins.
